Jamestown residents have an idea to reel in some of the millions of visitors to Pymatuning State Park each year into spending money in their town.

To do this, an extensive downtown revitalization, including streetscaping, restoring building storefronts and invigorating the downtown shopping scene, will be put together -- all playing off Jamestown's proximity to Pymatuning Lake.

Right now, said Ed LeClear of the Harrisburg-based nonprofit Pennsylvania Downtown Center, the idea is to draw some of the anglers, hunters and campers into the town.

"We'll be using netting, wooden lampposts, to create a boating, wooden pier, fishy kind of thing," LeClear said at a Tuesday night town meeting. The idea is to provide services, products and atmosphere to state park tourists.

PDC is working with the Jamestown Gateway steering committee to get the project going. Jamestown Gateway is a newly formed organization of community leaders, business people and residents in Jamestown.
