2nd joint meeting set
from 3 to 7 p.m. today

The second in a series of public meetings aimed at gathering ideas for future development in Greenville and Hempfield Township will be from 3 to 7 p.m. today at Hempfield Township Volunteer Fire Department's Station One banquet center on Sixth Avenue.

More than 200 people attended the first meeting, held in Greenville High School July 15.

The second meeting is open to all Greenville and Hempfield area residents and business owners.

The meetings are part of the joint municipal planning committee's planning process. The borough was ordered to undertake the planning study by state's fiscal recovery coordinator, RDM of Pittsburgh.

Facing a $1.5 million deficit, Greenville became the state's 18th financially distressed community in 2002. In its fiscal-recovery plan, RDM also created a guideline for the borough to follow.
