Over the summer, a group of young people from the Pennsylvania Conservation Corps spent a day painting and removing trees downed in storms in Buhl Farm park, Hermitage. "It gave a good idea of the kind of work they could do and the quality of work," said Pat O'Mahony, general manager of the Buhl Farm Trust. Pleased with the work, O'Mahony is hoping the park can bring the workers back -- for a year. But, to apply for a grant that would make that happen, the city of Hermitage needs to sponsor the project. City commissioners agreed Thursday to place a resolution on the agenda for Tuesday's meeting that will do that. The corps offers work experience, job training and educational opportunities for people ages 18 to 25. The workers construct simple buildings, develop trails, plant shrubs and trees and do other tasks. |
