Burn victim released from hospital

John Pollock, who was critically injured in a West Middlesex house fire in which his son died, has been released from Akron Children's Hospital, a hospital spokeswoman said Wednesday.

The hospital houses the regional burn trauma unit for 17 counties.

Pollock's wife, Shirley, was released earlier in the month from Mercy Hospital in Pittsburgh and transferred to an unknown facility.

The fire at 18 Old Bedford Road broke out at 1:40 a.m. Oct. 3 in a basement chair, possibly from a cigarette, investigators said.

The Pollocks' son, Mark, 46, was found near his parents. He was pronounced dead at UPMC Horizon, Farrell, of smoke inhalation.

Mark Pollock was a Shenango Township volunteer firefighter and a former West Middlesex firefighter.
