A West Middlesex woman who was critically injured last month in a house fire in which her son died and her husband was also critically injured, has died. Shirley Irene Pollock, 75, of 18 Old Bedford Road, died at 8:22 p.m. Sunday at St. Elizabeth Health System in Youngstown. She had been hospitalized in Mercy Hospital in Pittsburgh since the fire, but had been released earlier this month and transferred to an unknown facility. Her husband, John, was recently released from Akron Children's Hospital, which houses the regional burn trauma unit for 17 counties, a hospital spokeswoman said last Wednesday. The fire broke out at 1:40 a.m. Oct. 3 in a basement chair, possibly from a cigarette, investigators said. The Pollocks' son, Mark, 46, was found near his parents. He was pronounced dead at UPMC Horizon, Farrell, of smoke inhalation. Mark Pollock was a Shenango Township volunteer firefighter and a former West Middlesex firefighter.
