Holiday dinner dance highlights December events at senior center
Sandy Lake Senior Community Center, a division of Mercer County Area Agency on Aging Inc., 29 Railroad St., announces December programs for senior adults 60 and older.
On Dec. 5, the center will be closed during the day and will open at 5:30 p.m. for a holiday dinner dance set for 6 to 11 p.m. A roast beef and turkey buffet with seven side dishes, dessert and drink will be served at 6 p.m. Dance music by Voyage will begin at 7 p.m. Holiday pictures will be taken from 7 to 8:30 p.m., with a donation of an additional $3. Tickets for the event are $10 per person at the center or by calling 724-376-3608. The event is open to all ages.
A holiday shopping and lights tour with Maureen Mild will leave the center at 2 p.m. Dec. 10. Participants will dine at Hermitage Eat 'n Park. Travel donation: $2.
Frozen two-pack meals are available for the holiday weekend at a cost of $4. See the hostess table for menu and delivery dates.
Other activities are:
» Monday -- 11:15 a.m., Audrey King will speak about the application process for residence at Lakeview Manor Apartments, Stoneboro.
» Dec. 2 -- Bring a practical or humorous gift suitable for a man or woman. $3 maximum.
» Dec. 3 -- 11:15 a.m., Countryside Convalescent Home, East Lackawannock Township, will conduct bingo games at the center, providing prizes.
» Dec. 15 -- 11:15 a.m., Holiday music by Lakeview High School Chamber Singers.
» Dec. 17 -- 9 a.m. to 2 p.m., Annual Christmas party for Grove City, Mercer and Sandy Lake seniors 60 and older at Brandy Springs Park, Mercer. Tickets at $8.50 are available after Thanksgiving at those centers or at Pine Grove Community Center.
» Dec. 19 -- 11:15 a.m., "Favorite Music Through the Years" by Judy Christ.
» Dec. 22 -- 11:15 a.m., Christmas carol sing-along with Ruth Fennell, pianist; and Pat Peterson, organist. A Christmas meal will follow at noon. A cookie exchange will also be held.
» Dec. 31 -- 10 a.m., New Year's Eve Noon Party with music by Johnny Oakes, a toast; and pork and sauerkraut meal.
Daily activities are:
» Mondays -- 9 a.m., Line dance; 10:15 a.m., Seniorcise; and 1 p.m., Bridge.
» Tuesdays -- Shuffleboard courts are available all day and at other times throughout the week. Those interested should call for times.
» Wednesdays -- 9 a.m., Line dance; and 10:15 a.m., Seniorcise, both Dec. 3, 10; and 1 p.m., Tai Chi, Dec. 3, 10, 17.
» Fridays -- 10:15 a.m., Seniorcise, Dec. 12, 19.
