Blood was the reason more charges were filed against a Mercer man stemming from a rash of burglaries in and around Mercer in late June, police said.

On Nov. 14, state police charged Nikolaus A. Beers, 23, of 325 Home St. with four counts of burglary, four counts of criminal mischief and two counts of theft by unlawful taking for four incidents on June 25 and 26.

The charges stem from burglaries at The Gallery at 116 N. Pitt St. and Mercer Banquet Center, both in Mercer, and Lakeland Party Supplies and Tanfastic, both in Coolspring Township.

Beers left blood at all four businesses during the break-ins on those two days, helping police to identify him through a blood or DNA match, police said.

Charges against Beers for allegedly burglarizing Roma's Italian Restaurant in Coolspring and the Dairy Queen and Kargo Quality Used Cars and Trucks, both in East Lackawannock Township, during the same time period were held to court over the summer. He is scheduled for trial in January on these charges, according to a court official.

The November charges were also held to court. Beers was taken to Mercer County Jail after failing to post $20,000 bail on each set of charges related to each business, according to a court official.

He is accused of taking $495 from Tanfastic and $348 from The Gallery and causing in excess of $500 damage to each of the four businesses.

Beers was being held in Lawrence County Jail Thursday afternoon. He was transferred from Mercer County Jail because of overcrowding, according to a spokesperson.
