Viaduct deck dangerous; pedestrians warned to keep off

PennDOT urges pedestrians to stay off the Oakland Avenue Viaduct in Sharon because the surface is extremely dangerous.

Work is continuing on the bridge as Carmen Paliotta Contracting Inc. is dismantling and removing the deck, a PennDOT news release said.

"Entering through the barriers onto the bridge surface could be extremely dangerous due to the removal of the decking material. Pedestrians cannot travel safely across the deck," the release said.

Police said they will be patrolling the area, and anyone who ignores the "No Trespassing" signs will be prosecuted.
