Slaying suspect pleads not guilty

By Joe Pinchot

A former Wheatland man has pleaded not guilty to first-degree murder in relation to charges that he shot and killed a neighbor in Hernando County, Florida.

Charles Sarchet, 48, of Brooksville, Fla., entered his plea Monday, said Don Scaglione, senior assistant state attorney in the homicide division.

Sarchet also is charged with robbery with a firearm and grand theft.

Scaglione said he is seeking the death penalty.

Police said Sarchet shot and killed Stuart Arlhuna, 51, who lived two properties away, after Arlhuna turned down Sarchet's request for money and a car.
