George Junior has witnessed
few assaults since its founding

Since its founding in 1909, George Junior Republic continues to operate under philanthropist William Ruben George's dream of creating a community "where youth would be guided to be self-sufficient and productive citizens in a democratic society."

For the last 94 years, some residents of the private treatment facility for delinquent and dependent boys aged 8 to 18 have realized that goal.

Take, for instance, Antwone Fisher. He went on to a fine career in the Navy and most recently had an award-winning motion picture made out of his autobiography "Finding Fish." Fisher was at GJR in the mid-1970s.

Over the same period of time, others haven't -- and the reasons for these failures are numerous. However, none have been the result of what allegedly happened early the morning of Nov. 10.
