BHS senior earns Eagle Scout Award

Bryan Fencyk, son of Jeanne and Todd Fencyk, Brookfield, received Boy Scouts of America's Eagle Scout Award during an Eagle Court of Honor on Dec. 7 in First Baptist Church, Sharon.

Bryan was presented his Eagle award by Scoutmaster Frank Bayer. Kevin Bonner, Chief Kiondashawa District's executive, presented Bryan with his Eagle certificate from Boy Scout National Headquarters.

For his Eagle project, Bryan planned and organized the construction and rebuilding of First Baptist Church's Food Pantry. This project enabled the pantry to store more consumable goods for distribution. It serves about 450 families.

He received donations, materials and services from the local Troops, businesses and lumber companies. The organized work parties met Wednesday evenings for about two months.

Bryan began his Scouting career as a Tiger Cub as a first-grader, and advanced in rank through Bobcat to Wolf Cub to Bear Cub to Webelos.

He earned the Arrow of Light, which is Cub Scoutings highest award. Bryan then moved on to Boy Scouts and worked his way through Scout, Tenderfoot, Second and First classes, Star, Life and Eagle ranks.

During his time in Boy Scouts, Bryan served as a den chief, scribe, patrol leader, senior patrol leader and now is junior assistant scout master.

He completed den chief and junior leader training, and served as a counselor in training at Camp Hank Forker, Custologa Town Scout Reservation. Bryan also showed leadership within his troop by guiding younger Scouts in the developing Scouting skills. He has participated in Scouting for Food, Adopt-a-Highway and PennDOT clean-ups and a Highway Tree Planting Project. Bryan also involved in community services for Brookfield Community Park and Little League.

The member of Covenant Presbyterian Church, Sharon, is a Brookfield High School senior. He is a four-year honor roll member and belongs to "Who's Who Among American High School Students."

Bryan is in the U.S. Marine Corps' Delayed Entry Program, and plans work on a criminal justice degree while serving his country.
