Girl's shooting investigated

A 14-year-old Greenville girl was flown to Allegheny General Hospital, Pittsburgh, after she was shot in the chest Wednesday night.

Sharon police said the girl was sitting in a vehicle parked in the 200 block of Mesabi Street when a man in his mid-20s approached the car and fired a single shot from a small handgun at about 7:45 p.m.

A man who identified himself as the boyfriend of the victim's mother said he and the mother drove the girl to the hospital of Sharon Regional Health System. Police said the girl's identity was being withheld, but that she was flown to Pittsburgh.

Her condition was unknown, but the mother's boyfriend said the girl's injuries might be fatal.

Police released the following description of the shooter: He is a light-skinned black man, 5 feet 10 inches tall, weighing 140 pounds. He was wearing a black stocking cap, black hooded sweatshirt and black pants.
