MERCER COUNTY AREA

Good News! Fund has raised $2,500

More than $2,500 has been donated through this morning to The Herald Good News Fund's fifth annual drive that will provide turkeys for Christmas to families that ordinarily would be unable to afford such a holiday staple.

The amount marks 25 percent of a $10,000 goal established for this year's campaign.

The year-round fund is affiliated with the Shenango Valley Foundation. Because the foundation is tax-exempt, all donations to The Good News Fund by area residents and businesses are tax deductible. They benefit local families through the Community Food Warehouse of the Shenango Valley and its 36 pantries. Turkeys will be bought from Hermitage County Market, and Michael Magnotto, president of the grocery store, has volunteered to provide them at dealer's cost.

People wanting to make a contribution should make checks payable to The Good News Fund and mail donations in care of The Herald, Box 51, Sharon 16146.
