HERMITAGE
Air Force band to play Tuesday at Buhl Farm
The Air Force Band of Flight includes a stop at Buhl Farm, Hermitage, on its annual 100,000-mile odyssey across the east and midwest.
The band plays at 6 p.m. Tuesday, a free concert.
Based at Wright-Patterson Air Force Base, Dayton, Ohio, the band plays 500 shows a year before civilian and military audiences and travels from Michigan to Kentucky and Indiana to West Virginia.
The 60-member band plays popular and Broadway songs, Bach to the Beatles, jazz and rock.
Founded in 1942, the band has played for presidents and heads of state, and has supported guest artists such as Walter Cronkite, Lee Greenwood, Glen Campbell and Chuck Yeager.
Major Kelly G. Bledsoe is commander and conductor of the band. He holds bachelor and masters degrees in music theory and conducting from the University of Tennessee at Knoxville, and is a graduate of the Air Force Squadron Officers School.
Bledsoe began his Air Force career as a French horn player and bagpiper with the 581st Air Force Band. Under his direction, the Band of Flight has played in Panama, Turkey, Europe and Russia.
In the case of inclement weather, the band concert will be held in the auditorium of Sharon High School.
