PYMATUNING TOWNSHIP

Driver faces charges in fatal crash

Vehicular homicide and drunken driving charges were filed Monday against a Millerton, Pa., man in connection with an Aug. 1 car crashed that killed a Pymatuning Township man.

Philip L. Owen Jr., 25, was charged with homicide by vehicle while under the influence of alcohol and drunken driving, said Pymatuning Township Police Chief John R. Miller. He said he filed the charges with District Justice William L. Fagley, Greenville.

Owen’s blood alcohol count was 0.109, which is slightly higher than the threshold required for a drunken driving charge, Miller said.

Killed in the crash was Owen’s passenger, Frank J. Bennett, 26, Lot 49, Covered Bridge Mobile Home Park, police said.

Police said the Pontiac Bonneville, driven by Owen, was speeding south on Crestview Drive when it hit guardrails and spun. The car went through the intersection with East Lake Road, where it rolled onto its driver’s side, police said.

Bennett was pronounced dead at the scene.
