Police said someone saw James Caldwell, 41, of 92 Second Ave., Sharon, in the hospital parking lot and called police, who had executed a search warrant at his home Tuesday after the noon explosion.
Police said Caldwell was intoxicated and when they later noticed an apparently self-inflicted cut on his left forearm they returned him to the hospital for evaluation under guard.
He was released from the hospital this morning and according to District Justice James E. McMahon's office, was being arraigned late this morning on Sharon police's fugitive from justice charge.
He was to be extradited to Austintown to face an attempted murder charge, police said.Caldwell, a Sharon native, lived with his 37-year-old wife in Hubbard until they separated, when she moved to Austintown and he moved to Sharon, police said.
They are going through a bitter divorce, Austintown police said.
Mrs. Caldwell entered her minivan, which was parked in an Austintown apartment complex, with a lit cigarette. An unknown flammable substance ignited and did minor damage to the vehicle but caused first- and second-degree burns on her, police said.
ATF agents at the scene said the blast could have been fatal, Austintown police said.
Mrs. Caldwell was discharged from St. Elizabeth Hospital, Youngstown, on Wednesday, according to hospital staff.
