GROVE CITY

1 parent unswayed by school's answer

At least one parent left the Grove City School Board meeting Monday with her concerns intact.

Single mother Vicki Chutz, whose seventh-grade daughter was on the so-called hit list and who didn't learn of the evacuation until 1 p.m., disagreed with officials who said the children were safe throughout last Wednesday's bomb threat evacuation.

She asked why the students weren't evacuated shortly after the threat was found, at about 8:30 a.m., instead of two hours later.

Post said administrators knew the note was the work of a student but took it seriously enough that they wanted to meet with police.

She also asked if the buildings at the athletic field were checked before the students were led there.

Post said adults had been there but he couldn't say if they checked for a bomb.

She then asked how she could reassure herself and her daughter that the school is safe, and Post suggested a counselor or minister.

"You're going to have to work through it,'' he added.

"That's my answer?'' she asked.

"If every parent would take responsibility for their own child none of this would happen,'' he said. "Our first priority is the safety of the children.''
