SHARON, FARRELL

Suspected killer is jailed

A 23-year-old Farrell man is in the Mercer County Jail today after being charged with the weekend shotgun-slaying of a 13-year-old Sharon boy.

Sharon police arrested Ronald Fuller of 823 Emerson Ave. Tuesday evening near his home.

Fuller, who has been charged with criminal homicide and jailed without bond, was picked up at 6:37 p.m.

After investigating the shooting, police obtained an arrest warrant for Fuller, said Police Chief Raymond C. Greene. Police spotted him not far from his Farrell home and arrested him without incident, Greene said.

He was arraigned before District Justice James E. McMahon, Sharon, who also gave police a warrant to search Fuller's house where they confiscated a shotgun.

Fuller is accused of shooting Jeremy Farrand at about 1 a.m. Saturday in the boy's home at 575 Prindle St., Sharon. Jeremy died of a single shotgun blast to the right neck and shoulder area.

Greene said additional arrests could occur.

While Fuller was being arraigned in Sharon, police were searching the home he shared with Regina Campbell and recovered a shotgun, but they would not comment on the caliber of the weapon. Police had said they believe Jeremy was shot with a 12-gauge shotgun, but are still awaiting lab reports.

Greene would not say if the gun recovered in the home was the suspected murder weapon. It was to be sent to state police crime labs for analysis, he said.

Greene said police were led to Fuller after numerous interviews and cooperation from community members.

According to the probable cause affidavit:

Greene said police are looking into Ms. Campbell's role.

As the arraignment began, McMahon asked Fuller how he was doing. Shaking his head, the suspect answered, "Not so good sir." Fuller answered each of McMahon's questions with "Yes sir."

After the arraignment, Fuller, with his ankles shackled, shuffled to the police cruiser in fuzzy, polka-dotted slippers. Asked if he had any comment, Fuller shook his head and said, "No I don't ..."

Fuller's preliminary hearing was set for 11:30 a.m. June 15.

Greene said he could not discuss a motive for the shooting because "we are still tracking this and interviewing."

Police are still looking for a woman spotted in the area of the Prindle Street home about the time of the shooting, Greene said, adding that they are not sure if she played a role in the killing.

Greene again said police do not believe Jeremy was the intended target, that anyone in the house could have been shot.

Jeremy and three other teens were watching television in the living room when they heard the back storm door open, police said. When the Sharon High School eighth-grader went to investigate, he was shot, police said.

Tuesday night, Greene commended the department's four detectives for working around the clock to identify and apprehend a suspect and city patrolmen who canvassed the neighborhoods.

Funeral service for Jeremy Farrand will be Thursday. Anyone interested helping to pay for funeral expenses can mail donations to A.E. Pustinger Funeral Home Ltd., Box 44, Farrell 16121.
