Project seeks 1st baby of 20th century
By Hal Johnson
Herald Writer
If you were born on the same day the 20th century began, Joe Shafran and NPR want to hear from you.
Shafran, a Sharon native living in Annapolis, Md., heads the Mercer County Oral History Project. Teaming up with National Public Radio's Lost and Found Sounds Search, Shafran is asking residents of western Pennsylvania or eastern Ohio, who were born on Jan. 1, 1900, to contact him for an interview.
Mercer County Oral History Project also is trying to reach people born before 1900 to tell about their lives throughout this century, Shafran said. The oral history effort is similar to a series appearing in The Sunday Herald.
People born on Jan. 1, 1900, can contact Joe Shafran, 626C Admiral Drive, Apt. 232, Annapolis, Md., at (800) 795-2428. His e-mail address is pr4u@pr4u.com
