Former New Virginia pastor back in ministry


The former pastor of New Virginia United Methodist Church in Hermitage has been appointed pastor of Charleston United Methodist Church, 1156 Greenfield Road.

The Rev. Roy Daugherty, who retired in June 1990, and his wife, Marjorie, will be officially welcomed at a reception in the church’s fellowship hall after the 10 a.m. service Sept. 19. His appointment, effective July 1, was made by Bishop George W. Bashore of the United Methodist Church’s Western Pennsylvania Annual Conference.

Rev. Daugherty, of 1156 Greenfield Road, Lackawannock Township, was licensed to preach in 1965; ordained a deacon in 1968; and ordained an elder in 1970. A native of Rouseville, in Venango County, he served churches in Craigsville and Fenelton, both near Kittanning, Pa., from 1965 through 1967; in Valier, Hamilton and Frostburg, Pa., from 1967 through 1974; and in Alum Bank, Clarion County, from 1974 through 1978.

Rev. Daugherty served from 1978 to 1990 in New Virginia.

He served on annual conference boards and has been camp manager of Cherry Run Camp Meeting in the Franklin District and Bethel Park Camp Meeting, in Fishertown, Bedford County.

Rev. and Mrs. Daugherty have two sons, five grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
