Tour points out lights of our world
The holiday season brightens the darkest time of the year with parties and gifts to warm the heart and twinkling lights to cheer the soul.
Holiday glimmer doesn't stop at the Christmas tree. In some families, decorating the outside of the house with strings of lights is as much a tradition as putting out cookies and milk for Santa.
Again this year, The Herald is taking its readers on a tour of local homes, where folks beckon Santa and other passersby to stop and take a look.
Here's a sampling of this year's twinkling treasures:
Brookfield/Masury
- 6899 Sharon-Stewart Road -- A big nativity set, metal sleigh with reindeer, snowmen, and lighted semi sit outside this Brookfield home. Caller said the house is lit up with icicle lights and colored lights are in the trees.
- 723 Bedford Road -- Roof outlined with red, green and white lights, lights decorate the rest of the house and yard.
- 7390-7416 Addison Road -- More than 21,000 lights decorate the three houses and barns in this display, which features Santa and his sleigh, a horse and carriage, lamp posts with bows, reindeer, Christmas trees, elves, a train, candles, snowmen, snowflakes and a Merry Christmas sign. Music completes the scene.
- Cleveland and Ohio Streets are loaded with lights.
- 7256 Stewart-Sharon Road -- Santa Claus stands in front of this display of multicolored lights on the house and trees.
- 7013 Stewart-Sharon Road -- Multi-colored lights cover the house.
- 7003 Stewart-Sharon Road -- White icicle lights decorate the house and wreaths with red bows hang in the windows.
- 6891 Stewart-Sharon Road -- Red and white lights decorate the house, trees and bushes, and icicle lights trim the house.
- Golf Drive -- Six to eight houses are nicely decorated. There are snowmen, a Santa, a sleigh filled with presents and Rudolph.
- Syme Street -- almost every house on the street is decorated.
- Wahabe Court -- Most of the houses are decorated with colored lights. There are candy canes; red, green and white lights; candles in the windows; and white lights on the fence.
- 8056 Ulp St. --
Multi-colored lights adorn the house. Pine trees are decked with multi-colored lights.
- 8071 Ulp St. --
Icicle lights line the inside and outside of the home. There are lights on the deck and hedges and white lights on the ground. Candy canes, a Santa, soldier, reindeer and nine-foot Christmas tree with green and white lights are the final touch.
- Edmund Street --
Several houses on the street are decorated.
- 658 Brookfield Ave. across from the old post office. -- The front yard is done in red and white lights.
- 591 Brookfield Ave. -- House is decorated with multi-colored lights.
- Valley View Drive --
white, icicle and multi-colored lights adorn many houses.
- 1063 Charles St. --
The entire house is decorated with icicle lights around the home and colored lights in the windows.
- Service near Charles street --
Caller said about five homes in this Masury neighborhood are decorated nicely for the holiday.
Canfield, Ohio
- Canfield Fairgrounds --
Holiday of Lights has more than 300,000 lights, 80 scenes, 400 lighted Christmas trees and lights depicting Christmas around the world. The display is lighted from 5:30 to 9:30 p.m. Sunday through Thursday and 5:30 to 10:30 p.m. Friday and Saturday through Jan. 2. Santa is on hand Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays through Christmas.
The cost is $8 per car. Limit 14 people per vehicle.
Clark
- Tara, a country inn, has had its elaborate display of white lights turned on since before Thanksgiving.
- Nora, Milton Streets and Gibson Road --
several houses are colorfully lighted and decorated.
Conneaut Lake
- The Winter Wonderland Light Show at Conneaut Lake Park includes more than 50 lighted scenes. It is open from 6 to 10 p.m. Sunday through Thursday and 6 to 11 p.m. Friday and Saturday through Jan. 2; it is closed Christmas Eve and New Year's Day. There is a fee of $10 per carload.
Delaware Township
- 156 Hopper Road --
Caller said five to six homes are decorated on this street, including this one that has a 100-year-old wagon, deer, trees. Lights finish off this holiday home.
Farrell
- 801 Park Ave. --
Caller said the home is nicely decorated inside and out. Highlights include wreaths, reindeer and various Christmas decorations.
- 1616 Short St. --
Icicle lights, ornaments, and Christmas trees make up this display. Also multi-colored lights, green garland and red bows adorn the fence.
- 912 Park Ave. --
House has icicle lights in the front and sides, three to five foot trees covered with white lights, and bushes decorated with red and white lights. Two reindeer are animated and two other deer stand with a sled. Caller noted that one of the trees has lights slightly smaller than a "volleyball" and a decorated tree trunk.
- 1123 Emerson Ave. --
Caller said the home has simple decorations and trees. House and garage are decorated.
- 511, 520, 522, 525 and 526 Wallis Avenue --
The homes are all lit with strings of holiday lights in this Farrell neighborhood. Caller said houses at 511 and 525 are decorated in the front and back.
- 1816 Memorial Drive --
Icicle lights hang on the house and around the fence. Trees are decked in multicolored lights. Wreaths in the windows have white and green lights and red and white lights adorn the lamp posts.
- Corner of Gail and Memorial Drives --
Multi-colored lights decorate the house and wreaths hang in the windows.
- 2017 Paul St. --
Caller said this house is the prettiest on the block. Multi-colored lights trim the house and animal figures in the yard are lit up.
- 1823 Farrell Terrace --
Reindeer, wreaths, gift wrappings and Christmas decorations add a seasonal touch to this must see home.
Greenville area
- 340 Wasser Bridge Road --
The elaborate display by Frank and Audrey Kiser in Hempfield Township includes 130,000 lights and 30 animated displays. The decorations include a life-size manger scene, Santa and workshop, lighted Disney characters, Cinderella and a pumpkin, plus a horse and carriage and a carousel. Lights have been turned on at 5 p.m. daily since Thanksgiving.
- Clarksville Street in Greenville from the borough line to Main Street. -- Many houses are festooned with lights.
- Greenville House on Penn Avenue --
For 14 years, residents of the high-rise have decorated their balconies.
- Columbia Avenue --
Several houses along the street are decorated.
- 361 Leech Road --
Caller said the Sugar Grove Township home has a nice display.
- Northeast Corp. in Reynolds East Industrial Park --
Large holiday light display put together by employees and executives.
Grove City area
- Kimberly Estates --
Lights decorate the neighborhood. Luminaries are added on Christmas Eve.
- 399 Irishtown Road --
Caller said homeowners Bill and Sandy Semple have mostly white lights and icicle lights all around the house and garage. Special touches include a Rudolph, sleigh, two reindeer and a nativity scene.
Hermitage
- Butterfly Lane --
About 25 to 30 homes are draped in lights.
- 990 N. Buhl Farm Drive --
Caller said the home has an extensive amount of white lights.
- 390 N. Darby Road --
1,000 lights on houses and garages. Many yard decorations.
- 515 N. Buhl Farm Drive --
Caller said home has a beautiful display of garland, wreaths, ribbons, and lights.
- 2921 Longview Road --
The home has a four foot Santa with a street rod in the yard and a Christmas tree with lights around it.
- Hofius Lane and Clarksville Road --
Neighborhood yards are a forest of free-form green, red and white trees made with lights. The houses also have other lighted decorations.
- 2015 S. Keel Ridge Road --
The whole front yard is decorated with lighted silhouettes of Santa and his reindeer.
- 2530 Rombold Road --
This home is decorated with more than 10,000 lights and reindeer. The home is decked out with icicle lights on the eaves and red bows. Landscaping is garnished in red bows and lights and each window showcases a wreath.
- 129 Rexford Drive --
House is outlined in white lights with a manger scene and tree in the front yard. The fence and mailbox are also decorated.
- South and North Buhl Farm Drive, especially 400, 500, 600, and 1100 blocks --
Wreaths hang in the windows and the shrubs are decked out in multi-colored lights and seasonal figures.
- 1180 N. Buhl Farm Drive --
Multi-colored lights in the shrubs. Also miniature sleighs and sleds.
- 1051 Maple Drive --
Trees are decorated with lights and stars, a Santa and reindeer are on the roof, a nativity scene and family of reindeer also sit outside. Caller said there are quite a few lights around the home, including ones around the windows.
- Nugent Convalescent Home, 500 Clarksville Road --
The yard is decorated with thousands of lights. Trees have white lights hanging from branches and green lights around the trunks. A gazebo is decorated nicely in white lights.
- 1135 Brookview Court --
Trees and house are decorated with a large nativity scene in the front yard.
- 156 Sunset Blvd. --
Caller said homeowner Tony Fanone has a "beautiful" display of multi-colored lights on all sides of the home. Christmas music can be heard outside. Two homes to the right are also illuminated for the season.
- Monticello Avenue near Hazen Road --
Almost every home in this Hermitage neighborhood are lit up for the season.
Hubbard
- Chestnut Ridge Road --
Two homes near the intersection with U.S. Route 62 are nicely decorated with white icicle lights.
Jackson Township
- 1581 Thomas Road --
Has 10-foot tree, Santa, angels, train sets and lights, caller said.
Mercer area
- 410, 461 and a nearby home on West Butler Street -- Caller said there are lights all over the homes and bushes. One of houses has a Rudolph, the red nosed reindeer, in the front yard.
- 1095 Perry Highway, three miles south of Mercer on Route 19 -- Colored lights line three sides of the house, porch, pool, trees and sidewalk. A Santa, sleigh and reindeer are also featured. Handmade trees decorated.
Sandy Lake
- 264 Glenn School Road --
10,000 lights in a big field. Caller said the display is "something to see."
- 5 Bortz Drive --
This township home is decorated in red and white lights and three Make-A-Tree Christmas trees are around the yard. Bushes are in white lights with red lights around the gutters.
Sharon
- 841 Service Ave. --
House and garage are nicely decorated for the season.
- 7900 and 7906 Service Ave. --
Several homes in this neighborhood are nicely decorated such as 7900 that looks like a gingerbread house. Caller said 7906 is decorated like "Little Town of Bethlehem."
- 1100, and 1200 block of Highland Road, including 1250 Highland --
Make-A-trees with snowmen, and ornaments in the trees decorate this Sharon home. Lights and a wreath are on the house.
- 217 Buhl Blvd. --
Many homes throughout this neighborhood are lit for the season, but this colonial has 5,000 lights. Caller said there are white lights on the top of the trees and green lights on the trunks. The bushes are lit with floodlights and icicle lights light up the top two floors of the home. All 42 windows have candles in them.
- 339 Ormond Ave. --
Caller said the home has a many displays, including polar bear, trees, church, a sleigh with deer, a huge nativity scene and wreaths on the windows.
- Baldwin Avenue from Budd Street down --
Caller said several houses in this neighborhood are nicely decorated for the holiday season.
- 600 and 700 block of Cedar Avenue and 319 Cedar Ave --
have many, many lights with various displays.
- 326 Baldwin Ave. --
Home is decorated with lights.
- 726 and 719 Tamplin Street --
homes have nice light displays.
- 197 Cedar Ave. --
Many lights decorate the house.
- 342 Alderman Ave. --
Several houses in this neighborhood are lit up, but this house is covered with decorations. Caller said the banisters, doors and windows are lit. There are strands with half red and half green lights and ones that are half frosted and white. Icicle lights adorn the home and a tree is decked in red velvet and white lace. Caller said there are 21,000 lights.
- 500 Harris St. --
The whole house is outlined in lights. Special decorations include a Mr. and Mrs. Claus, teddy bears, candy canes, a sleigh with Santa Claus and a big star. The deck is all lit up with lights.
- 1069 Pearl Ave. --
An array of colored lights nicely decorate this home. Caller said there are candy canes, stars, and a Santa Claus.
- 577 Fourth Ave. --
Multi-colored lights decorate the house and lawn.
- 900 block of Hadley has many houses decorated with multicolored lights and displays.
- 755 Fisher Hill St. --
Home has many multicolored lights and lawn is filled with lighted decorations.
- 417 and 425 S. Oakland Ave. --
Homes have nice light displays.
Sharpsville area
- 54, 56 Wakefield Drive and office of Georgetown Apartments --
Caller said two townhouses decorate together with candy cane-lined walkway, air conditioners wrapped like presents, angels and stars. The office is has white lights on the shrubs, lighted garland, and icicle lights.
- Mayfield Road between Seventh and 10th Streets --
Caller said 22 homes are completely decorated with various light displays.
- 1, 11 and 39 High Street --
Mix of light displays.
Shenango Township
- 8 Paul St. --
Just over the 718 viaduct this house is decorated all in blue. Caller said there are Christmas trees and a manger.
- Lot 190 Oak Leaf Estates --
Icicle lights decorate the mobile home and lights brighten the bushes. A 20 foot Christmas tree in the front yard is decorated as well as several small trees. A rotating Christmas tree is in the front window and wreaths decorate the remaining windows.
- Lot 20 Oak Leaf Estates --
Icicle lights decorate the mobile home and porch, and the sidewalk and driveway are decorated. Also, 20 trees on the property are lit up.
- Bedford-West Middlesex Road from 318 heading towards Pulaski has a mile and a half stretch with many houses decorated with lights, wreaths and other lawn displays. One house has a flying sleigh with reindeer.
- 31 Farkas Road --
Several homes on this road are lit up but this house is fully decorated in red with a white star on the roof. Bushes are in blue lights. Caller said there are two imitation green trees. A homemade Santa Claus and sleigh with eight tiny reindeer is illuminated by flood lights.
South Pymatuning Township
- 1543 Drivere Lane off Buckeye Drive --
Caller said house and garage are full of lights. There is a Santa and sleigh sculpture and angels lit up.
- 3157 Kathy Lane --
Home is all lit up with seven nicely decorated trees and candy canes lining the driveway. Caller said bows are everywhere. A number of the homes in the cul de sac are lighted with decorations.
Stoneboro
- 28 Beech St. --
Home is fully decorated, caller said.
Transfer area
- 549 E. Crestview Drive --
Blue lights trim the house, and the yard is filled with lighted Christmas trees. The barn and garage are also decorated.
- Rutledge Road west of Route 846 -- for about a mile many homes have extensive decorations, including multi-colored lights and lawn ornaments.
- state Route 18 near Rutledge Road --
A semi is outlined in multi-colored lights.
West Middlesex
- 380 Sharon-Bedford Road --
Icicle lights, sled and reindeer, small and large trees nicely decorate this home. Caller said "you have to see it to appreciate it."
