WEST MIDDLESEX
Santa Claus already came to this town

In most towns, Christmas Eve is a time of hanging stockings by the chimney with care — as the poet said — in hopes that St. Nicholas will soon be there.
But in West Middlesex, they might be too late. Santa, or a reasonable facsimile, visits the town every Dec. 23.
Ever since 1979, a special Santa Claus committee — headed by Norman Kaiser of Old Bedford Road — has provided special Kris Kringle services to local organizations, West Middlesex Area School District and children in the borough.
Thursday night was no exception as Santa stand-ins, accompanied by elves — usually played by female high school students — delivered a bag of goodies to each child they visited
“Sometimes they arrive in time for a family Christmas get-together, and everyone, young and old, sits on their laps,” said Gwladus Webster, secretary of the Santa committee.
“We register families in the borough that call, and want us to visit their kids on the night of Dec. 23,” said Kaiser, West Middlesex’s original jolly, old elf.
