Chamber hosts radio voiceof the Steelers
The radio voice of the Pittsburgh Steelers will be speaker at Grove City Area Chamber of Commerce’s annual dinner at 6:30 p.m. Jan. 12 in Grove City College’s Mary Anderson Pew Dining Hall.
For more than 20 years, Bill Hillgrove has been a Channel 4 Action News Team contributor. He has been the radio voice for the Steelers and University of Pittsburgh Panther Basketball for many years. Hillgrove also has delivered play-by-play coverage for Pitt Football
He grew up in Pittsburgh’s Garfield section, and earned a radio and television journalism degree from Duquesne University, Pittsburgh.
While attending college, he launched his broadcasting career in 1959 as a radio announcer for WKOF-FM (B-94), where he remained until 1967. For the next eight years, Hillgrove was a disc jockey with WTAE Radio.
Hillgrove has been honored with two Golden Quill Award for golf coverage and a PAB Award for Pitt Football sportscasting.
His community involvement includes his role as chairman of Bill Hillgrove Charity Golf Tournament.
The avid golfer also enjoys jazz from the big band era.
Other highlights of the evening will be the presentation of Silver Spruce Awards and naming of the Community Service Award recipient.
