MERCER COUNTY

Wilson named top jail guard

Mercer County Prison Board Monday honored a 15-year veteran guard for her dedication.

Patty Wilson of West Salem Township received the Mercer County Prison Officer of the Year award.

The board’s resolution noted Mrs. Wilson, who began at the jail in October 1984, displayed a willingness to take on a variety of duties. Her dedication exemplifies what a corrections officer should be, it said.

A 1999 state inspection report commended the Mercer County Jail’s documentation and singled out Mrs.

Wilson, who was records officer, wrote Commissioner Cloyd E. “Gene” Breeneman, who is prison board chairman.

Warden Jeffrey P. Gill said Mrs. Wilson helped fellow guards by filling in when the jail was shorthanded on women guards.

Sheriff William Romine said Mrs. Wilson showed professional courtesy with his office.

“Your attitude says a lot about the job you do,” Commissioner Richard R. Stevenson told Mrs. Wilson.

She is a model county employee, wrote Commissioner Olivia M. Lazor.
