Happy New Year! I own
and operate the Curves Ex-
ercise Gym located at 7107
Warren-Sharon Road in
Brookfield, Ohio.
Why not
celebrate a
new year
with a new
you? Curves
is
easily
found on Old State Route 82,
just up from Giant Eagle.
The atmosphere is so fun
and engaging your 30
minute routine is over before
you know it.
Curves is for everyone, re-
gardless of age or physical
health. The program is de-
signed to move you forward.
New for 2012 is the oppor-
tunity for couples to get fit
together. Husbands can now
work out with their wives
from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. We
have tried this as a pilot pro-
gram and it has been a great
success.
As an added bonus, in
2011 the health care industry
began to recognize the im-
portance of regular exercise
to ward off serious health
risks such as diabetes and
high blood pressure. For this
reason, many health care
providers will now cover all
your fees! Give them a call,
you and your spouse may be
able to join Curves for free.
Also, for the first time
ever, Brookfield Curves can
offer a money-back guaran-
tee. Try our optimal program
and if you do not lose
weight, get your money
back. 2012 is going to be a
great year. Set your goals
high and don’t stop till you
get there.

Marketing Coordinator,
Walberg Family Pharmacies
Locally owned and operat-
ed Walberg Family Pharma-
cies has experienced a year
of achievements and growth.
In 2011, owners, Bretton and
Stacey Walberg opened two
new pharmacies – Petrolia
Pharmacy and Mercer Phar-
macy. As a result of this
growth, more local jobs were
created and the success of
these new pharmacies will
ultimately keep more money
in our local economy.
Ensuring
communi ty

are able to
afford and
comply with
their physi-
cian’s prescription orders is
important to Walberg Family
Pharmacies. Therefore, they
continue to be the contracted
pharmacy in all of their loca-
tions for Primary Health Net-
work.
“PHN patients, who do not
have private insurance and
do not qualify for medical as-
sistance, are able to get their
prescriptions at our pharma-
cy as inexpensively as possi-
ble through the federally
funded 340B prescription
program,” Walberg said.
“For those who do not quali-
fy for this program, rest as-
sured. Walberg Family Phar-
macies are proud to offer the
most competitive prescrip-
tion prices around, including
many free diabetic and blood
pressure medications.”
November 2011 marked
the launch of a website. The
site includes recipes for
many dietary considerations,
money saving coupons, a li-
brary of health topics and
health assessment quizzes.
The website also provides
a gateway to each of the
company’s individual store
websites.
“While customers now
have the ability to request a
refill online, we are always
available for consultation and
quick with a smile,” Walberg
said. “Our new website is
meant to be a convenience
and a resource of health in-
formation for our cus-
tomers,” he continued.
New products were also
added to the company’s al-
ready extensive home med-
ical equipment line-up, in-
cluding a line of scooters,
power wheelchairs and ther-
apeutic footwear by Dr.
Comfort.
“These products were re-
quested by our customers
and we are happy to meet
their needs,” Walberg said.
Reynolds Pharmacy and
Herbert’s Pharmacy feature
the largest selection of home
medical equipment but the
Walbergs are working to es-
tablish small displays at
some of their other stores.
“Jamestown Pharmacy is
in the process of a reorgani-
zation which will include
many new products,” Wal-
berg said. “We encourage
people to come see what we
have to offer. We believe we
are extremely cost competi-
tive and are also able to bill
Medicare Part B for many of
the items,” add Mr. Wal-
berg.”
Two years ago, they be-
gan a new service for their
customers when they intro-
duced free weekday prescrip-
tion delivery. In 2011, a new
vehicle was added to the
fleet allowing for the delivery
of larger home medical
equipment like lift chairs and
scooters.
This addition allowed the
company to expand their pre-

General Surgeon
Hernias are common and
can affect men, women and
children.
There are several types of
hernias, including:
ä
Inguinal
– the most
common type is in the groin
ä
Umbilical
– around the
belly button
ä
Incisional
– through a
scar
ä
Hiatal
– a small
opening in
the
di-
a p h r a g m
that allows the upper part of
the stomach to move up into
the chest
ä
Congenital diaphrag-
matic
– a birth defect that
needs surgery
Hernias become notice-
able when a “sac” of fat, tis-
sue or intestine from within
the abdomen protrudes from
the hernia defect. This often
presents as a bulge or lump
at the site. This bulge may
vary in size and shape and
can often be manually
pushed back into its normal
position.
Not all hernias cause
symptoms of discomfort. Pa-
tients may report that certain
strenuous activities such as
heavy lifting will make the
symptoms worse. If severe
enough, even
normal activi-
ties such as
sneezing, uri-
nation or hav-
ing a bowel
m o v e m e n t
may
be
painful.
The usual
treatment for
a hernia is surgery to repair
the opening in the muscle
wall. With conventional her-
nia repair an incision is
made over the hernia site.
The hernia is moved back
into the abdominal cavity, or
the sac may be removed.
The muscles around the her-
nia are sewn together.
With laparoscopic hernia
repair, a thin tube-shaped ob-
ject with a camera on the
end (laparoscope) is inserted
through a small incision. The
physician is able to see the
hernia on a nearby TV.
Small instruments are in-
serted through small inci-
sions to complete the repair.
After the procedure, the inci-
sions are closed with stitches
or staples.
If you are having pain or
discomfort and suspect a
hernia is the problem, please
call our office to schedule an
appointment. Accurate diag-
nosis can prevent potentially
serious complications.
