Physical changes are evi-
dent on the Grove City Col-
lege campus, with some con-
struction recently completed
and more projects underway.
On lower campus, the
completed Wolf Creek
Restoration and Nature Trail
was dedicated at Homecom-
ing on Sept. 23. It was made
possible through the gen-
erosity of the Richard King
Mellon Foundation, The
Foundation for Pennsylvania
Watersheds, local resident
Joseph D. Monteleone and
other college supporters.
The endeavor, which began
in 2009, has stabilized the
creek flow through campus,
reestablished and preserved
creek banks, improved Rain-
bow Bridge’s lighting, as
well as added new trails, ar-
eas for fishing, biking, walk-
ing and picnicking for stu-
dents and community
residents.
In new projects, the Col-
lege broke ground in spring
2011 on both a Science, En-
gineering and Mathematics
Building and on Rathburn
Hall. The significant con-
s t r u c t i o n
projects are
key compo-
nents
of
Grove City
Matters: A
Campaign to
Advance Grove City College,
which at $90 million is the
largest capital campaign in
the College’s history.
The addition of the $6.8-
million Rathburn Hall, a
Christian activities building,
reflects the centrality of spiri-
tual life to the student expe-
rience. Situated behind Har-
bison Chapel, the building
will fulfill the demand for a
facility to house administra-
tive offices, flexible training
spaces and student religious
activities. The completion of
the 16,500-square foot build-
ing, projected to be finished
in fall 2012, will expand op-
portunities for the college to
host summer conferences,
church retreats and special
guests for chapel and min-
istry programs.
The $37.2-million Science,
Engineering and Mathemat-
ics Building is designed to
support new modes of teach-
ing, particularly by offering
flexible laboratories and
small-group
interaction
spaces. With its 63,000
square feet of teaching and
research space, the building
will allow the college to keep
pace with increasingly so-
phisticated technologies, and
to attract talented students
and faculty. Construction and
outfitting of the building will
take 24 to 30 months.
Former First Lady Laura
Bush helped launch the pub-
lic phase of the Grove City
Matters campaign at a gala
event in Pittsburgh on May
15. Earlier in the day, she
spoke to the College’s 575
graduating seniors and
guests at commencement on
the college’s quad.
Grove City College contin-
ues to garner national recog-
nition, and earned national
rankings in 2011, including:
No. 1 value for private liberal
arts colleges in Consumers
Digest Magazine’s “Top 100
College Values;” a best col-

Youngstown State Univer-
sity is worth looking into, es-
pecially for those who live
near the state line. This com-
prehensive urban research
university offers its 14,500-
plus students more than 135
undergraduate and graduate
p r o g r ams ,
all in one lo-

Fully ac-
c r e d i t e d ,
YSU
is
known for its focus on aca-
demic research and creative
programs that transform its
students into successful pro-
fessionals, scholars, and
leaders. At the heart of the
Tech Belt between Pitts-
burgh and Cleveland, YSU
provides undergraduates
with opportunities to do ad-
vanced research with full-
time, tenured faculty and
learn to use the newest re-
search equipment – opportu-
nities that at most universi-
ties are reserved for
graduate students.
Faculty at Youngstown
State are deeply committed
to the success of their stu-
dents.
Mostly small classes
(more than 75 percent of un-
dergraduate classes have
fewer than 30 students) en-
courage faculty and student
discussion, and professors
are available for questions,
consultation, and mentoring
during regular office hours –
which they keep!
The beautiful, park-like
YSU campus includes high-
tech classrooms, state-of-the-
art labs and performance fa-
cilities, a variety of housing
options, and recreational fa-
cilities among the best in the
nation. Campus life is en-
hanced by NCAA Division I
varsity athletics, a wide
range of student organiza-
tions and clubs.
YSU is at the center of a
city on the move in the
midst of a high-tech, green
economic renaissance, boast-
ing a wide variety of commu-
nity, cultural, business and
recreational resources – a
truly great university town.
Residents of Pennsylvania
counties along the state line
– plus Venango, Butler, Al-
legheny and Westmoreland
– enjoy a significant reduc-
tion in out-of-state tuition
that puts a top-quality YSU
education well within reach.
Modern on-campus housing
makes Youngstown State an
attractive choice for western
Pennsylvania students who
want to have the full cam-
pus-life experience, but clos-
er to home.
