Sharon Regional Health
System notes growth in out-
patient utilization, emergency
room enhancements, and
leadership changes in 2011.
One of the highlights was a
change in executive leader-
ship.
A chief executive officer
search culminated in the hir-
ing of CEO Linde Finsrud
Wilson and the promotion of
John R. “Jack” Janoso, Jr. to
president and chief operating
officer.
Sharon Regional experi-
enced a 6.2 percent increase
in outpatient revenues over
the prior fiscal year as well
as a 4 percent increase in net
patient revenue. The health
system began the implemen-
tation of a $13 million elec-
tronic health record system
throughout all inpatient and
outpatient services and em-
ployed physician offices.
Construction began on the
5,000-square-foot James E.
Feeney Technology Center
at LindenPointe technical
business park in Hermitage.
The new center will house
all of the health system’s in-
formation technology compo-
nents from the main Sharon
campus as well as its satellite
locations and physician of-
fices.
Sharon Regional’s Heart
and Vascular Institute up-
graded its cardiac catheteri-
zation labs through the in-
stallation of a $1 million
diagnostic and interventional
suite. The new system en-
hances Sharon Regional’s
ability to rapidly treat pa-
tients suffering from heart at-
tacks due to partial or full
blockages of heart vessels.
Sharon Regional’s Cancer
Care Center completed its
$4.6 million expansion and
renovation, resulting in a sec-
ond linear accelerator for ra-
diation therapy and a dedi-
cated rehab center to treat
the many conditions that of-
ten accompany a cancer di-
agnosis and subsequent
treatment.
The cen-
ter is Mer-
cer County’s
largest facili-
ty for spe-
cialized can-
cer care.
Sharon Regional wel-
comed Emergency Medical
Physicians as its new exclu-
sive provider of emergency
medicine services who devel-
oped a new model for the de-
livery of emergency medical
care known as Physician-
First.
To enhance emergency
treatment capabilities, Shar-
on Regional partnered with
Cleveland Clinic’s Telestroke
Network to offer an ad-
vanced level of expert stroke
care by providing immediate,
24/7 access to patient con-
sultation services from the
clinic’s team of neurological
specialists.
As further recognition for
its heart attack treatment
program, Sharon Regional
was designated an Aetna In-
stitute of Quality for cardiac
medical intervention, more
commonly known as inter-
ventional cardiology. Sharon
Regional was recognized by
Highmark Blue Cross/Blue
Shield for achieving the max-
imum score in its Quality-
BLUE program for six quali-
ty indicators and was also
recognized by Highmark at
its QualityBLUE Best Prac-
tices Forum for low infection
rates related to Methicillin
Resistant Staphylococcus au-
reus (MRSA).
Other highlights of 2011
included the introduction of
a new natural orifice proce-
dure known as TIF (Transo-
ral Incisionless Fundoplica-
tion) for the treatment of
gastroesophageal reflux dis-
ease (GERD) under the di-
rection of Ravi Alapati, M.D.;
offering a new procedure for
treating uterine fibroids
known as uterine fibroid em-
bolization; partnering with
Life Line Screenings to offer
a series of screenings for the
early identification of risk for
stroke and cardiovascular
disease at locations through-
out the region; and working
with the Hermitage School
District to implement Hornet
SCORE, a building-wide,
school-based behavioral sup-
port model.
