In today’s economy, where
can a company find a ready
and capable work force that
can quickly turnaround quali-
ty piece work at a reasonable
cost?
Since the early 1980s, area
businesses have looked to
MCAR to handle assembly
jobs and piecework that must
be done by hand. Whether
it’s only a few items or tens
of thousands of multi-part
product assembly, MCAR’s
workers help a company free
up its own employees to do
other work. Each assembled
piece is hand-checked and
counted by MCAR staff, en-
suring quality control.
With its 20,000-square-foot
produc t i on
facility and a
ready work-
force of over
100 employ-
ees, MCAR
is highly competitive in bid-
ding for subcontract jobs.
Most important, however,
these sub-contract jobs pro-
vide individuals with intellec-
tual and developmental dis-
abilities a paycheck.
Recently, Wendell August
Forge contracted MCAR’s
work force to assemble its
holiday ornaments, which in-
volved adding a ribbon to
each ornament before plac-
ing it in a lidded box. Anoth-
er recent job involved label-
ing and tabbing a mailing of
over 10,000 pieces for a local
organization.
For a number of years,
MCAR has been the only fa-
cility in the state licensed to
build crash-tested and ap-
proved highway sign-stands,
part of a state contract held
by Pennsylvania Industries
for the Blind and Handi-
capped. These sign-stands are
used by PennDOT or other
agencies, such as fire and
forestry departments, that
need to put up safety signs on
state-maintained roads.
A number of other local
companies have also con-
tracted with MCAR for as-
sembly work, including
Wheatland Tube, Premier
Hydraulics, Thomas and
Betts Reznor, Signature Alu-
minum, Mercer County Re-
hab Supply, Cheonho USA
and others. MCAR also con-
tinues to operate its award-
winning furniture refinishing
shop as well as its document
shredding business.
When not working on sub-
contract jobs, MCAR individ-
uals turn their efforts toward
creating handmade crafts for
the Holiday Shop. This shop,
open from October through
December, offers decorative
seasonal items for sale.
