Title teams Kennedy, GJR top boys picks

Not surprisingly, players from state champions George Junior Republic and Kennedy Christian led the voting for the 1997-98 Mercer County Athletic Conference boys basketball all-star teams announced Monday.
Voting was done by league coaches and sports staffers from WWIZ Radio, WPIC Radio and The Herald.
The county schools were divided into two divisions: Big School (Class AAA Slippery Rock, Sharon, Hickory, Grove City, and Class AA Greenville and George Junior) and Small School (Class AA Wilmington, Reynolds, Mercer and Sharpsville, and Class A Commodore Perry, Kennedy Christian and West Middlesex).
Following are selections, including name, school and class:
Big School
MVP _ Jarrod Graham, George Junior, 12.
First Team _ Marty Barnett, Sharon, 12; Jamal Benjamin, George Junior, 12; Josh Morgan, Grove City, 11; Ryan Oman, Greenville, 12; Adam Zajac, Slippery Rock, 12.
Second Team _ Jeff Valentino, Sharon, 11; Ben Zajac, Slippery Rock, 9; Earl Chapman, Sharon, 12; B.J. Grove, George Junior, 11; Bear Shimrack, Sharon, 11.
Small School
MVP _ Damon Clayton, Kennedy, 12.
