Italian Meatloaf

3 pounds ground chuck

1 1/2 cups Italian-style bread crumbs

1 large onion, finely chopped

1 large green pepper, slice 5 pieces and finely chop remainder

2 large eggs

1 1/2 teaspoons salt

2 teaspoons garlic powder

1/2 teaspoon black pepper

1 teaspoon oregano

1 teaspoon basil

2-ounce block Cheddar cheese, cut into 3 pieces

2-ounce block sharp cheese, cut into 3 pieces

2-ounce block provolone cheese, cut into 3 pieces

2 large cans tomato sauce

1 small can tomato paste


1. Combine and mix ground chuck, chopped onion and green pepper, Italian bread crumbs, eggs, salt, pepper and garlic powder.

2. Shape mixture into a loaf. Indent a tunnel in center of loaf. Place cheese pieces in tunnel.

3. Tightly cover cheese with meat mixture by pinching the sides of loaf to the top.

4. Pour tomato sauce and paste over loaf.

5. Space and place pepper slices on top of loaf. Sprinkle with oregano and basil.

6. Cover and bake at 350 degrees for 1 1/2 hours in small roaster or large casserole pan. Serves 8-10.
