Chocolate-Carmel Layer Squares 1 bag (14 ounces) caramels
2/3 cup evaporated milk, divided
1 regular German chocolate cake mix (18 ounces)
3/4 cup butter, softened
1 cup chopped nuts
1 package (6 ounces) chocolate chips
1. Combine caramels and 1/3 cup evaporated milk, cook until caramels are melted, remove from heat.
2. Combine cake mix, remaining 1/3 cup evaporated milk and butter. Mix with electric mixer until dough holds together. Stir in nuts.
3. Press half of cake mixture into a greased 13-by-9-by-2-inch baking pan. Bake at 350 degrees for 6 minutes.
4. Sprinkle chocolate morsels over crust. Pour caramel mixture over chocolate morsels, spreading evenly. Crumble remaining cake mixture over caramel mixture, return pan to oven and bake for 18 minutes.
5. Cool, chill 30 minutes and cut into small bars.
