Hazel M. Deacle
1918 Hickory High School grad had grandson in N.C.

Hazel M. Deacle, Clepper Convalescent Home, Sharon, formerly of 51 Forker Blvd., Sharon, died at 4 a.m. Friday (6-9-00) in the home. She was 100.

She was born May 3, 1900, in Hermitage, to Samuel I. and Daisy Estella Troutman Welch.

A 1918 graduate of Hickory High School, she was its oldest living alumni.

Surviving is a grandson, James W. Harshman, Spring Lake, N.C.

She was preceded in death by a daughter, Sarah Bell Harshman; a son, Walter W. Deacle; an infant son; three sisters, Frieda, Helen and Blanche Welch; and three brothers, Cephas, John and Mont Welch.

Cremation was held. Burial at Morefield Cemetery, Hermitage.


Alberta Henderson
Alberta Henderson, 1460 Carrie Way, Grove City, died Saturday (6-10-00) afternoon in Allegheny University Hospital, Pittsburgh. She was 93.

Irene Martin
SV Baptist Church member was community volunteer

Memorial service will be Saturday for Irene Martin, 825 Wilhelm Road, Hermitage. She died at 4 a.m. Thursday (6-8-00) in UPMC Horizon, Farrell. She was 76.

Mrs. Martin was born Oct. 12, 1923, in Sharon, to Michael and Mary Kapala Powell.

She graduated in 1942 from Hickory High School.

Mrs. Martin attended Shenango Valley Baptist Church, Hermitage.

A homemaker, she volunteered for Meals on Wheels, the Prince of Peace Center, Farrell, and the Salvation Army Shenango Valley Corps.

Her husband, George J. "Jim" Martin, whom she married Dec. 25, 1947, died Oct. 15, 1998.

Surviving are: a daughter, Mrs. Larry (Debra) Jones, Greenville; two sisters, Mrs. Howard (Peggy) Robb, West Middlesex, and Violet Griffin, Yucca Valley, Calif.; three brothers, Michael "Jake" Powell Jr., Yucca Valley; Joseph "Hap" Powell, Brookfield; and Martin Powell, Hubbard; and two granddaughters.

She was preceded in death by three sisters, Mary Connors, Nancy Powell and Jewell Waller; three brothers, Andrew, George and Tom Powell.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Salvation Army Shenango Valley Corps, Hall Ave. Box 629, Sharon, PA 16146.

Andrew W. Rerko

Retired millwright, veteran, served in Army in WWII

Andrew W. Rerko, 4291 Youngstown-Kingsville Road, Cortland, Ohio, died at 3:11 a.m. Saturday (6-10-00) in his home. He was 76.

Mr. Rerko was born Feb. 8, 1924, in Briar Hill, Pa., to Steven and Mary Yohman Rerko.

He served with the Army during World War II in Normandy.

Mr. Rerko retired in 1989 after 29 years as a millwright in the North River Road Plant of Packard Electric, Warren.

He was a member of the Amvets Post 290, Vienna, Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 3374, Greenville, the Slovak Club, Warren, Ohio, and the Trumbull Boat Club, Cortland.

Surviving are: his wife at home, the former Barbara Velky Miller, whom he married Aug. 14, 1981; five daughters, Ann Zarecky, Cleveland; Lt. Col. Shirley Polly, Washington, D.C.; Linda Yoakum, Scotts, Mich.; Jacqueline Treese, Hayes, Va. and Paulette Catchpole, Vienna; two sons, William Rerko, Cortland, and James Rerko, Greenville; three sisters, Margaret Sherosky, Cortland; Anna Matika, Hartford; and Mary Liszka, Greenville; nine grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.
