Today's obituaries Harold W. Clarkson GCC grad was active in Kiwanis, Boy Scouts JACKSONVILLE, Fla. -- Harold W. Clarkson, formerly of Grove City and West Palm Beach, Fla., died Thursday (6-30-00) in the emergency room of Memorial Hospital, Jacksonville. He was 87. Mr. Clarkson was born Jan. 5, 1913. He served in the infantry during World War II. A graduate of Grove City College, Mr. Clarkson earned letters in football and track and played in the first night football game. He owned Clarkson’s Furniture Store, Grove City, before moving in 1954 to West Palm Beach, where he was associated with Burdines. Active in civic affairs, he was president of the Kiwanis Club of Grove City and was on the board of directors of the Kiwanis Club of West Palm Beach. Mr. Clarkson was president of the Mercer County Boy Scouts and served on the Gulfstream Council of Boy Scouts, Palm Beach. He headed the Mercer County Chapter of National Infantile Paralysis for four years. Mr. Clarkson served on the board of the Association for the Blind, the American Red Cross and as commander of the American Legion. He often made public appearances dressed as Santa Claus. He was a member of Christ Episcopal Church, Ponte Vedra Beach, Fla. Surviving are: his wife, the former Jean Jaxtheimer, whom he married July 8, 1935; two daughters, Ann Turpin, Centreville, Md.; and Julia Wittman, Minneapolis, Minn.; four sons, Larry Clarkson, Kirkland, Wash.; and Dr. John Clarkson and Robert Clarkson, both Miami, Fla.; Charles Clarkson, Jacksonville, Fla.; 14 grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren. Davis Construction worker, farmer was born in Leesburg Alfred ‘High’ W. Davis, 110 Fredonia Road, Hempfield Township, formerly of West Salem Township, died at 7:25 p.m. Friday (6-30-00) in White-Cliff Nursing Home, Hempfield Township, after an extended illness. He was 83. Mr. Davis was born Jan. 15, 1917, in Leesburg to Lawrence and Mary Davis. He served in the Army from 1945 to 1946. Mr. Davis attended Leesburg schools. He was a construction worker and was a self-employed farmer for more than 40 years. Mr. Davis was a Protestant. He was an avid hunter and fisherman. His first wife, the former Dorothy E. Swartz, whom he married in 1935, died in 1985. Surviving are: his second wife, the former Dorothy L. Harlan, whom he married Feb. 1, 1991; a son, William L. Davis, New Castle; four stepdaughters, Dorothy E. Carran, West Palm Beach, Fla.; Shirley A. Kolcun, Mount Jackson, Pa.; and Linda M. Knox and Sarah L. McBride, both Edinburg; three stepsons, Lyle Q. McConahy, Bessemer; Donald J. McConahy, New Castle; and Richard P. McConahy, Edinburg; a sister, Eleanor Miller, Pittsburgh; a brother, Harold Davis, Mercer; four grandchildren; 18 step-grandchildren; and several great-grandchildren. Besides his first wife, he was preceded in death by three brothers, Clifford, Gaylord, and Paul Davis.
DAVIS Clara Diurba Clara Diurba, 540 12th St., Pymatuning Township, died at 12:04 p.m. Saturday (7-1-00) in the hospital of Sharon Regional Health System. She was 57. Obituary information was incomplete.

LIVERSAGE Dorothy I. McCauley Homemaker served Salvation Army citadels MEADVILLE -- Dorothy I. McCauley, Wesbury United Methodist Community, Meadville, formerly of Greenville and Warren, Pa., died at 4:55 a.m. Saturday (7-1-00) in Meadville Medical Center after an extended illness. She was 79. Mrs. McCauley was born Dec. 9, 1920, in Greenville to Raymond O. and Florence Mae Reuff Goldhart. She attended Greenville schools. She married Robert E. McCauley April 5, 1939. He died June 20, 1970. Mrs. McCauley and her husband, a Salvation Army captain, served citadels on the west side of Pittsburgh and in Corry and Warren, Pa. A homemaker, she was a member of the Salvation Army Greenville citadel and the Salvation Army Home League. Surviving are: three sons, Raymond O. and Robert E. McCauley, both Greenville; and Gary L. McCauley, Winter Springs, Fla.; and three daughters, Mrs. John (Sherry) Hammersley, Warren, Pa.; Mrs. Gordon (Terri) Clover Jr., Estanolle, Ga., formerly of Warren; and Mrs. Gary (Jody) Zuschlag, West Salem Township; two brothers, Leonard O. Goldhart, Albion, Pa.; and Robert L. Goldhart, Greenville; and three sisters, Florence M. Allen, Betty Jane Middleton and Martha L. Hawk, all Greenville; 23 grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; and four great-great-grandchildren. Besides her husband, she was preceded in death by a son, Frank, in 1944; a daughter, Janet M. Wells, on April 6, 2000; a granddaughter, Heather McCauley, in infancy; and a great-grandson, Gene Albert Bish. McCAULEY Dorothy McDermott BOARDMAN, Ohio -- Dorothy McDermott, 2300 Canfield Road No. 132, died Saturday (7-1-00) in her home. She was 93. Obituary information was incomplete.

REVAK Jack A. Thompson Hubbard man operated day care with his wife Jack A. Thompson, 7763 Bedford Road, Hubbard, died at 6:40 p.m. Thursday (6-29-00) in the hospital of the National Institutes of Health, Bethesda, Md., of renal cell cancer. He was 50. Mr. Thompson was born June 4, 1950, in Sharon to George and Ruth Burns Thompson. He served in the Army during Vietnam. A 1968 alumnus of Brookfield High School, Mr. Thompson was a 1975 graduate of Youngstown State University, with a bachelor’s degree in business administration. He and his wife owned and operated Thumbs-Up for Kids, a day-care center in Hubbard, since 1978. Mr. Thompson was an avid supporter of the Youngstown State football team. While participating in clinical research at the National Institutes of Health, he organized a Christmas toy drive for the Children’s Inn, Bethesda, Md. Surviving are: his wife, the former Deborah Gratz, whom he married May 24, 1975; a daughter, Courtney; and a son, Doug, both at home; and four brothers, Robert and Jerry Thompson, both Brookfield; Thomas, Masury; and Charles Chick Thompson, Brookville, Fla. Memorial contributions may be made to the Jack Thompson Memorial Fund, in care of Cortland Bank, Hubbard Branch, 890 W. Liberty St. Hubbard 44425. A gathering will be held at a later date.
