Rev. John Edward Walheim Pastor was WWII pilot, retired from Westinghouse Funeral services will be held Tuesday for the Rev. John Edward Walheim, 18 Reno Road, Jefferson Township. He passed away at 4:50 a.m. Friday (3-22-02) in the hospital of Sharon Regional Health System. He was 83. Pastor Walheim was born May 31, 1918, in Mott, N.D., to the late Christian and Gena Johnson Walheim. He graduated from high school in Mott and moved to the Shenango Valley in 1949. He earned a degree in theology from Westminster College, New Wilmington. An electrician by trade, Pastor Walheim was trained in Chicago. He retired in 1981 from the Sharon Transformer Division of the former Westinghouse Electric Corp., where he worked in the H building as a tester for more than 35 years. Pastor Walheim was a member of Victory Assembly of God in Coitsville, Ohio; a former member of Charleston United Methodist Church; and ministered at East Brook United Methodist Church in Lawrence County as well as Old Salem United Methodist Church, Sheakleyville. He was a United States Air Force World War II veteran, serving in the South Pacific as a pilot. A licensed pilot, he was certified to fly by instrument and had previously flown for Ed Chadderton at his airstrip in Hermitage. Pastor Walheim was very active with Don Reed Ministry in bringing Christian television to the Shenango Valley area. He was on the board of directors of Crossing Paths TV ministry, a local Christian program. On May 29, 1950, he married the former Vivian Caroline Seelbaugh. She passed away Jan. 11, 1990. He is survived by two sons, Lynn A. Walheim, Grove City; and Carl E. Walheim and his wife Mary Beth, Mercer; a stepdaughter, Berle Ivell of Clintonville; two stepsons, James M. Randolph and his wife Beverly, Mercer, and Bill Knapp and his wife Linda, Hermitage; 12 grandchildren; and 21 great-grandchildren. In addition to his parents and wife, he was preceded in death by four sisters, Dorothy Larson, Violet Green, Frances Carlson and Adeline Stymus. Memorial contributions may be made to a charity of the donor's choice.
WALHEIM June Yake Packard retiree belonged to South Pymatuning church June Yake, 8300 Hartford St., Orangeville, Ohio, died at 1:20 a.m. Friday (3-22-02) in UPMC Horizon, Farrell. She was 72. She was born April 1, 1929, in Hartford to Ralph E. and Lela Marie Fowler Miller. Before retiring in 1990, Mrs. Yake was employed by Delphi-Packard, Warren, for 25 years as an assembly worker. She was a member of South Pymatuning (Township) Community Church. Mrs. Yake enjoyed watching baseball on television and doing puzzles, including crosswords. Her husband, Robert A. Yake, whom she married Aug. 16, 1947, preceded her in death March 3, 1976. Surviving are: one daughter, Rhea Glenn, Dallas, Ga.; one son, Gary Yake, York, S.C.; three sisters, Virginia Tupper, Hartford; Irene Mines, Howland, Ohio; and Lois Durney, Greenville; and two grandsons.
YAKE Agnes Quinn Agnes Quinn, 88 Woodrow Court, Sharon, passed away at 4:25 p.m. Friday (3-22-02) in Nugent Convalescent Home, Hermitage. She was 82. Obituary information was incomplete.
QUINN Edith Galarde Retired teacher's aide belonged to Fatima church A funeral Mass will be held Monday (3-25-02) for Edith Catherine Galarde, formerly of 4400 Clifford Drive, Apartment 105, Hermitage, who passed away at 11:05 p.m. Thursday (3-21-02) in O'Brien Memorial Nursing Home, Masury. She was 73. She was born March 24, 1928, in Farrell to Joseph and Victoria DeMaria Mercurio. A 1946 alumna of Farrell High School, she was elected queen of her senior class. Mrs. Galarde was employed for a number of years as a teller at First National Bank, Sharon. In 1997, she retired from the Trumbull County Board of Education, for which she worked as a teacher's aide, assisting special needs children for 17 years. She was also instrumental in establishing this program in Brookfield and Hubbard high schools. She was a member of Our Lady of Fatima Church, Farrell. Mrs. Galarde enjoyed cooking, canning, bicycling and traveling. A devoted and strong-willed homemaker, she cared deeply for her family, helping to promote strong, solid relationships among family members. With her uncanny personality and wit, she could easily become anyone's "second" mother. Surviving are: her husband at home, Nick A. Galarde, whom she married Aug. 27, 1955, in Our Lady of Fatima Church; two sons, Christopher A. Galarde and his wife, Debra Lynn, McKinney, Texas; and Timothy A. Galarde, Charlotte, N.C.; six sisters, Mary Louise Sekerak, Clearwater, Fla.; Mrs. Thomas (Gloria) Marenovich, Sebring, Fla.; Mrs. Catherine "Pup" Burdick, Sharon; Mrs. Guy (Adeline "Appie") Guerino and Mrs. Jeffrey (Donna) Kovach, both Hermitage; and Barbara Greenfield, Canal Fulton, Ohio; and two brothers, Louis "Merk" Mercurio and his wife, Geneveive, Lake Worth, Fla.; and James Mercurio and his wife, Eileen, Bell Harbor Island, Fla. She was preceded in death by her parents; an infant son, Anthony Galarde; and a brother, Joseph Mercurio. Memorial contributions may be made to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105.
GALARDE Laverne Zahniser Laverne Zahniser, 2379 Kelly Road, Hermitage, died at 5:20 p.m. Friday (3-22-02) in his residence. He was 86. Obituary information was incomplete.
