Marybelle I. Blair Homemaker born in Transfer belonged to Brookfield U.M. WARREN, Ohio -- Marybelle I. Blair of Gillette Nursing Home in Warren, formerly of Syme Street, Masury, died at 5 a.m. Sunday (4-14-02) in St. Joseph's Health Center. She was 95. Mrs. Blair was born Sept. 18, 1906, in Transfer to George and Anna Bartholomew Bloss. She was a homemaker. Mrs. Blair was a member of Brookfield United Methodist Church; Order of the Eastern Star Chapter 518; and the Daughters Club, both Hartford; and Order of the White Shrine of Jerusalem Shrine 8, Sharon. Her husband, Evan Blair, whom she married in 1926, died in 1980. Mrs. Blair is survived by four grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren. Besides her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents; a son, Richard Blair; and a brother, Fred Bloss. Memorial contributions may be made to Richard Blair Scholarship Fund in care of McDonald High School, 600 Iowa Ave., McDonald, OH 44437.
BLAIR Frank J. White Frank J. White, 1104 Negley St., Farrell, died at 7:02 a.m. today (4-15-02) in the hospital of Sharon Regional Health System. He was 79. Obituary information was incomplete.
WHITE Gregory W. Curry WE retiree, WWII vet was member of churches, clubs A funeral Mass will be celebrated Tuesday for Gregory W. Curry of 260 S. Buhl Farm Drive, formerly of Mercer Avenue, both Hermitage. He passed away at 3:25 p.m. Saturday (4-13-02) in John XXIII Home, Hermitage. He was 84. Mr. Curry was born May 3, 1917, in Sharon, a son of John P. Curry Sr. and Leona Hetherington Curry. As a young man, he was employed by the South Penn Oil Co. in Bradford. He also worked for the former Mehl's Clothing Store in Sharon. Mr. Curry also worked for the former Sharon Transformer Division of Westinghouse Electric Corp. for more than 25 years, retiring in 1980. He belonged to Church of Notre Dame in Hermitage and was formerly an active member of St. Joseph's Church in Sharon, where he served as head usher. Mr. Curry was a third degree member of Knights of Columbus Council 684, and belonged to Benevolent and Protective Order of the Elks Lodge 103 and American Legion Post 299, all Sharon. He was also a member of several other local clubs. Mr. Curry was active at one time with the Meals-on-Wheels program. During World War II, he served with the U.S. Army. Surviving are: his two sisters, Mrs. Patrick J. (Maryad) Lally, with whom he lived; and Mrs. Robert J. (Betty Ann) Donnelley, Sharon; one brother, Richard C. Curry, Pittsburgh and Florida; and several nieces and nephews. Mr. Curry was preceded in death by two sisters, Helen McNerney and Sarah C. Bartlett; and his three brothers, John P. Curry Jr., and Blythe and James R. Curry.
CURRY Isabelle Glancy Isabelle Glancy, 4175 Brockway Sharon Road, Burghill, died Sunday evening (4-14-02) in her home. She was 88. Obituary information was incomplete.
GLANCY Elizabeth A. "Little Betty" Chavka Sharon woman was one of first local USO hostesses A funeral service will be held today for Elizabeth A. "Little Betty" Chavka, 1027 Myrtle Place, Sharon. She died at 9:50 p.m. Friday, April 12, 2002, in the hospital of Sharon Regional Health System following an extended illness. She was 86. Mrs. Chavka was born Jan. 29, 1916, in Farrell to George and Catherine Sonoga Halula. She was employed at Ideal Bakery in Farrell as a cake decorator. Mrs. Chavka was a member of St. Ann's Church, Farrell; was president and vice president of the Parents and Teachers Organization at St. Ann's School and was a volunteer for the American Heart Association. She was also one of the first U.S.O. hostesses at the former Camp Reynolds. She loved playing bingo, doing needlepoint, crocheting and cooking. Mrs. Chavka loved her family. On July 1, 1944, she married Anthony J. Chavka, who died Aug. 31, 1981. Surviving are: a daughter, Constance M. Hunter and her husband David S., Sharon; two sisters, Anna Halula, Farrell; and Mrs. Michael (Helen) Yevchak, Sharon; three grandchildren, Mrs. Lindsey (Tahme) Campbell; Corey Hunter and his wife Christy; and Krista Hunter; and two great-grandchildren, Jeffery Addicott and Hannah Addicott. Besides her husband, Mrs. Chavka was preceded in death by four brothers, George, Frank, Edward and Ronald Halula; a sister, Mary Frances McMasters; and an infant daughter, Patricia Anne Chavka.
CHAVKA James A. Headlee WE retiree belonged to Elks, Masons, was orchestra leader James A. Headlee of Hermitage died of natural causes on Sunday, April 14, 2002, in the hospital of Sharon Regional Health System after a brief illness. He was 87. Born on Wednesday, April 15, 1914, in Mount Morris, Pa., Mr. Headlee was a son of the late David and Ella Headlee. He was the husband of Betty L. Frye Headlee, whom he married July 6, 1946. Mr. Headlee graduated from both Waynesburg (Pa.) High School and Waynesburg College. He worked as a supervisor at the former Sharon Transformer Division of Westinghouse Electric Corp., from which he retired after many years. Mr. Headlee was a member of First United Methodist Church; Benevolent and Protective Order of the Elks Lodge 103, both Sharon; and Free and Accepted Masons Shenango Lodge 668, also Sharon, now known as Shenango Valley Lodge 810, Hermitage. A member of Local 187 of Sharon Musicians, he greatly loved music, playing saxophone for many years in his own group, the Jim Headlee Orchestra. Mr. Headlee bowled in the Thursday Night League at the former Hickory Bowl in Hermitage. Surviving are: his wife, Betty, at home; a daughter, Bette Lynne Cheney, Hermitage; a brother, Tom Headlee, Athens, Ga.; and five nephews. Mr. Headlee was preceded in death by an infant grandson, Richard Charles Cheney; and two sisters, May Brockman and Esther Deal. The family requests memorial contributions be made to First United Methodist Church, 237 W. Silver St., Sharon 16146.
HEADLEE Robert 'Bob' M. Murrell Robert "Bob" M. Murrell, 801 Lillian Drive, Hermitage, died today (4-15-02) in Montefiore University Hospital, Pittsburgh. He was 84. Obituary information was incomplete.
MURRELL Ethel L. McBride McFadden Retired Grove City teacher belonged to Grace U.M. Ethel L. McBride McFadden, 467 Liberty St., Grove City, died at 11:55 p.m. Saturday, April 13, 2002, in United Community Hospital, Pine Township. She was 94. Mrs. McFadden was born Jan. 2, 1908, in Pine Township to James Nelson McBride and Elizabeth Louella Snyder McBride. She was a graduate of Grove City High School Class of 1925 and Slippery Rock State Normal School Class of 1927. Mrs. McFadden retired in June of 1972 after 39 years of service with the Grove City Area School District, where she was a third-grade teacher at Washington School. She was a member of Grace United Methodist Church, Grove City; Mercer County Retired Teachers Association; and Pennsylvania State Education Association. Her husband, Perry Raymond McFadden, whom she married Dec. 25, 1929, died Feb. 13, 1940. Surviving are: one daughter, Mrs. Richard (Rosalyn J.) Yurchison, Grove City; two grandchildren, Thomas Yurchisin and his wife Kim, Dillsburg, Pa.; and Mrs. Scott (Karen) Bovard, Grove City; and three great-grandchildren. Besides her husband, Mrs. McFadden was preceded in death by her parents; three sisters, Mary Buckley, Lillian McAnich and Lena Shuler; and four brothers, Nelson, James, Lemoyne and Clarence McBride. McFADDEN Warren A. Robinson Sr. Sharon Tube retiree, WWII vet was bowler in leagues A funeral service will be held Wednesday for Warren A. Robinson Sr., 445 Columbia St., Sharon. He died at 9:30 a.m. Saturday, April 13, 2002, in UPMC Horizon, Farrell. He was 74. Mr. Robinson was born July 15, 1927, in Sharon to Oscar R. Robinson and Eva Louise Rumsey Robinson. He attended Sharon and Hermitage schools and retired in 1988 with 34 years of service with Sharon Tube Co. Mr. Robinson was previously employed by Scott Produce of Sharon. He was a veteran of World War II, having served in the U.S. Marine Corps in the Pacific theater of operations. Mr. Robinson also belonged to Local 1355 of U.S. Steelworkers union; Sharon Tube Retirees; and First Baptist Church in Sharon. He enjoyed bowling and participated in several bowling leagues, including Sunday Night Married Couples, Woodchoppers and First Baptist Church League. Mr. Robinson also enjoyed candlemaking as his hobby. Surviving are: his wife, the former Jean Bonner, whom he married Jan. 5, 1952, at home; one son and his wife, Warren A. Robinson Jr. and Jonelle M. Robinson, Farrell; one daughter, Mary Louise Hall, Moon Township, Allegheny County; three grandchildren; two stepgrandchildren; three great-grandchildren; and four stepgreat-grandsons. Mr. Robinson was preceded in death by his parents; three sisters, Naida Dahringer, Doris Ann Fruit and Minnie Mae Robinson; and four brothers, James, Clarence and "Buddy" Robinson; and Oscar Robinson Jr. Memorial contributions may be made to the Memorial Fund of First Baptist Church, 301 W. State St., Sharon 16146; or to a charity of the donor's choice.
