John G. Cabraja Sharon grad, WE retiree was 4th degree knight John G. Cabraja, 378 Morton St., Sharon, died at 6:30 p.m. Thursday, June 20, 2002, in the hospital of Sharon Regional Health System after an extended illness. He was 72. Mr. Cabraja was born Jan. 31, 1930, in Sharon to George Cabraja and Theresa Milcic Cabraja. A graduate of Sharon High School Class of 1948, he retired in 1982 after 33½ of employment with the former Sharon Transformer Division of Westinghouse Electric Corp. Mr. Cabraja was a member of St. Anthony's Church; and was a fourth degree knight in Knights of Columbus Council 684, both Sharon. He also belonged to Croatian Fraternal Union Lodge 126, Farrell. A U.S. Navy veteran, Mr. Cabraja served during the Korean conflict. His wife, the former Mary D. "Dodie" Henighan, whom he married April 14, 1961, died Aug. 22, 1987. Surviving are: two sons, John Michael Cabraja and Mark Stephen Cabraja, both Sharon; three sisters, Mary Samoy, Pittsburgh; Catharine Podleyon, Farrell; and Mrs. John (Barbara) Robich, Sharon; and one granddaughter, Chelsea Telega, New Middletown, Ohio. Besides his wife, he was preceded in death by his parents. Memorial contributions may be made to St. Anthony's Chapel Fund, 804 Idaho St., Sharon, 16146.
CABRAJA Sue Ann Fuhrman Lukens Hermitage woman was nurse at UPMC Horizon Sue Ann Fuhrman Lukens, 2248 Homewood Drive, Hermitage, formerly of Freeport, Pa., died at 11:30 a.m. Thursday, June 20, 2002, in St. Elizabeth Health Center, Youngstown. She was 56. Mrs. Lukens was born Feb. 21, 1946, in Natrona Heights, Pa., to Richard Fuhrman and Grace Furer Fuhrman. She was a registered nurse at UPMC Horizon, Farrell, and was a member of Covenant Presbyterian Church, Sharon. Mrs. Lukens enjoyed sewing, cross stitch and quilting. Survivors include: her parents, Richard and Grace Fuhrman, South Buffalo Township, Armstrong County; her husband, Evard "Ed" Lukens, Hermitage; one son, Nathan Heigley, at home; one daughter, Ann Kaszowski, Foxboro, Mass.; two stepsons, Everett C. Lukens, Weatherford, Texas; and John Paul Lukens, Hazen, Pa.; three brothers, Richard Jeff Fuhrman, New Kensington, Pa.; Peter Joseph Fuhrman, Natrona Heights; and Eric Steven Fuhrman, East Sandwich, Mass.; and two sisters, M. Janet Fuhrman and Mrs. Mendall (Pamela L.) Reitler, both East Sandwich.
LUKENS Edna Mae Torok MATTHEWS, N.C. -- Edna Mae Torok, 741 E. John St., Matthews, formerly of Orangeville, died at 3:45 p.m. Thursday (6-20-02) in Presbyterian Hospital. She was 59. Obituary information was incomplete.
TOROK Gertrude Hughes Martin Grove City native was accountant, active in church A funeral service will be held Monday for Gertrude Hughes Martin, currently residing at Orchard Manor, Pine Township, formerly of 7166 E. State St., Sharon; and The Ridgewood, Greenville. She died at 2:45 a.m. Thursday, June 20, 2002, in Orchard Manor. She was 93. Mrs. Martin was born March 22, 1909, in Haysboro, Pa., to David Hughes and Gertrude Geary Hughes. She was a 1927 graduate of Grove City High School. In her youth, from 1927 through 1944, Mrs. Martin was employed by the former Shelly Brothers Furniture, and what is now Cooper Energy Services Reciprocating Products, both Grove City. From 1944 until her retirement in 1989, she was a partner with her husband in Martin and Martin Accountants, Sharon. As an active member of Charleston United Methodist Church in Hermitage, Mrs. Martin served as a financial secretary, church treasurer, trustee, and for many years, belonged to the Administrative Board of the church. She enjoyed gardening, canning and giving canned goods to her church, as well as traveling with her husband. Her husband, Roy Daniel Martin, whom she married April 22, 1940, died Feb. 5, 1994. Surviving are: one brother, E. Victor and his wife Leaudra Hughes, Grove City; five nieces; and four nephews. Besides her husband, Mrs. Martin was preceded in death by her parents; two sisters, Sarah Hughes Moon and Martha H. Steckler; a brother, David Hughes Jr.; one niece; one nephew; and one grandnephew. Memorial contributions may be made to the Memorial Fund of Charleston United Methodist Church, 1156 Greenfield Road, Hermitage 16148.
MARTIN Gertrude M. Kurcon Gertrude M. Kurcon, John XXIII Home, Hermitage, formerly of 760 Baldwin Ave., Sharon, died at 4 p.m. Thursday (6-20-02) in the hospital of Sharon Regional Health System. She was 90. Obituary information was incomplete.
KURCON Charles R. Gianoglio Sharon Steel retiree served in Korea, was Catholic Charles R. Gianoglio, 1316 Roemer Blvd., Farrell, died at 11:25 a.m. Friday, June 14, 2002, in St. Elizabeth Health Center, Youngstown. He was 72. Mr. Gianoglio was born May 17, 1930, in Brookfield to Joseph Gianoglio and Katherine Yarabenets Gianoglio. He was employed by the former Sharon Steel Corp.'s Farrell plant as an electrician until his retirement in 1989. A veteran of the U.S. Army, Mr. Gianoglio served in Korea and was a member of American Legion Post 160; and Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 5286, both Farrell. He also belonged to the First Italian Social Club in Farrell and was of the Catholic faith. His wife, the former Mary Ann Lorenzo, died May 17, 1976. Surviving are: two children, Scott Gianoglio, Hermitage; and Kelley Boatwright, Canton, Ga.; and two grandchildren. He also leaves: a sister, Katherine M. Woods; and two brothers, Kenneth J. Gianoglio and Leonard W. Gianoglio, all Hermitage. Besides his wife, Mr. Gianoglio was preceded in death by his parents; and a brother, Joseph E. Gianoglio. A funeral service was held at 9 a.m. Tuesday (6-18-02) in Farrell, with the Rev. Matthew Ruyechan, pastor of St. Anthony's Church, Sharon, officiating. Interment was held in St. Anthony's Cemetery, Hermitage. Dave Johnson Obituary information remains incomplete.
