WARREN, Ohio -- Jane Frances Buchanan, Carnegie Arms, 1916 Youll St., Niles, Ohio, formerly of Mercer, died at 8:03 a.m. Wednesday, July 17, 2002, in St. Joseph's Health Center. She was 75.

Mrs. Buchanan was born May 8, 1927, in Mercer to Harry King and Foda Jane Bixler King.

She graduated from Mercer High School and belonged to Women of the Moose Chapter 113 in Niles.

A homemaker, Mrs. Buchanan was a member of Coolspring Presbyterian Church in Fairview Township.

Her husband, Kenneth C. Buchanan whom she married Nov. 5, 1951, died Oct. 3, 1994.

Surviving is one brother, Plummer A. King, Beaver Falls.

Besides her husband, Mrs. Buchanan was preceded in death by her parents; and four brothers, Galvin B. King, Jerald N. King, Paul E. King and Henry F. King.

Robert W. McGuire
Ex-Stoneboro man retired

from Navy, Spang Industries

TUCUMCARI, N.M. -- Robert W. McGuire, Tucumcari, formerly of Stoneboro, died Monday, July 8, 2002, in Tucumcari after an extended illness. He was 77.

Mr. McGuire was born June 7, 1925, in Worth Township to Lamont and Anna Marie Greer McGuire.

He attended the former Stoneboro High School.

After leaving high school, he enlisted in the U.S. Navy and served in World War II. He made the Navy his career and retired in 1964 after 20 years of service. Upon returning home, he worked for Spang Industries of Sandy Lake, retiring in 1985 after 18 years of service.

He married Carmen Diaz in June 1961. She survives in Mercer.

Also surviving are: one daughter, Mrs. Jeffrey (Rita) Johnson, Philadelphia; and two sons, Mark W. McGuire and his wife Faith, Mercer; and Joseph W. McGuire, Sharon; two sisters, Shirley Sepik and Rosanna Brown, both Mercer; and one brother, Lamont M. "Cub" McGuire, Stoneboro.

He was preceded in death by his parents; one sister, Mary McGuire; and one brother, William "Mickey" McGuire.

    Robert W., 77, Tucumcari, N.M., formerly of Stoneboro.
    Calling hours: 10 a.m. to time of service Saturday, Aug. 3, 2002, in SCOTT A BLACK FUNERAL HOME, 99 Franklin St., Stoneboro.
    Service: Memorial service at 11 a.m. Aug. 3 in the funeral home, with the Rev. Edmond C. Gresick, pastor of Stoneboro United Methodist Church officiating.
    Interment: None. At Mr. McGuire's request, his cremains will be scattered over the Pacific Ocean.


Harold Leroy Michaels

Welder, husband, father of 2

was hunter, race car driver

Harold Leroy Michaels, 399 Lake Wilhelm Road, Clarks Mills, died Friday, July 19, 2002, from injuries sustained in an automobile accident on Greenville-Sandy Lake Road, New Vernon Township. He was 37.

Mr. Michaels was born July 17, 1965, in Grove City to Howard E. Michaels and Nina Oakes Michaels.

He was a welder for Pennsylvania Rail Car in Mercer and belonged to Jackson Center Presbyterian Church.

Mr. Michaels was also a member of Loyal Order of the Moose Lodge 1637; Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 6345; and American Legion Post 159, all Mercer.

He was a loving husband and father and a dedicated worker and deer hunter.

Mr. Michaels was also an avid race car driver.

His wife, the former Traci Trask, whom he married Feb. 8, 1992, survives at the residence.

He also leaves: a daughter, Alyson Michaels; and a son, Brett Michaels, also at the residence; his father, Mercer; his mother, also Mercer; and three brothers, Howard E. Michaels Jr., Mercer; and twins, Edward A. Michaels and his wife Theresa, Stoneboro; and Earl A. Michaels, Mercer.

Mr. Michaels was preceded in death by his grandparents, Floyd and Esther Oakes; and Ted Michaels and Mary Lawrence.

Ella T. Chintella

Homemaker, retired bookkeeper was seamstress

Ella T. Chintella, John XXIII Home, Hermitage, formerly of 447 10th St. Sharpsville, passed away at 7:58 a.m. Friday (7-19-02) in the hospital of Sharon Regional Health System following a brief illness. She was 77.

Mrs. Chintella was born Sept. 1, 1924, in Sharon, a daughter of John Kushan and Mary Fabry Kushan.

A lifelong area resident, she attended Sharon schools and retired in the early 1980s from Martuccio's Asphalt and Paving Inc. in Hermitage, where she was a bookkeeper for 10 years. Mrs. Chintella previously had been employed by Metz Bakery in Sharon for about five years.

A homemaker, she was a member of Church of Notre Dame in Hermitage, and a former member of St. Anthony's Church in Sharon. Mrs. Chintella was a former member of the Notre Dame Catering Group.

Mrs. Chintella enjoyed playing bocce with her husband at the American Legion Post 160 home in Farrell.

An accomplished seamstress, she also enjoyed sewing and working with crafts.

She was an avid card player.

Her husband, Paul P. Chintella, whom she married April 10, 1944, survives at John XXIII Home.

Also surviving are: three sons, Denis A. Chintella and his wife Sandra, Hermitage; Mark B. Chintella and his wife Marilynn, Chehalis, Wash.; and John P. Chintella, Fresno, Calif.; one sister, Mrs. Ed (Rose) Ricey, West Springfield, Pa.; and seven grandchildren, Christine Williams; and Leigh, Denny, Blair, Angela, Chelsea and Nathan Chintella.

Mrs. Chintella was preceded in death by her parents; one brother, Walter Kushan; and one sister, Betty Kushan.

Memorial contributions may be made to charity of the donor's choice.

Walter E. Hedglin
Worked for Norris Coal Co., Fisher Coal Co.

Walter E. Hedglin, Village of Nectarine, Harrisville, passed away at 6:10 p.m. Thursday, July 18, 2002, in the residence of his son and daughter-in-law, Raymond and Elaine Hedglin of Grove City, after a brief illness. He was 88.

Born April 21, 1914, in Frankin, Mr. Hedglin was a son of Fred T. and Iva McKenzie Hedglin.

He was married first to the former Mary Coon, who passed away in 1988; and later married the former Bessie M. Robb, who passed away Aug. 24, 2001.

Mr. Hedglin attended Sutherland Public School in Mercer County.

He started working in the deep coal mines in 1931 and worked for more than 25 different mines in Venango, Mercer and Butler counties before his retirement after 43 years of service.

Mr. Hedglin also worked for Norris Coal Co. of Boyers, Pa.; and Fisher Coal Co., formerly of Stoneboro, where he had been an equipment operator for the two companies.

After retirement, Mr. Hedglin was well known for his love and devotion regarding his work in his garden in Nectarine.

Surviving are: three sons, Fred A. Hedglin, Masury; Walter L. Hedglin and his wife Patricia, Howard, Ohio; and Raymond Hedglin and his wife Elaine, Grove City; and one daughter, Mrs. Donald (Patricia) Mowery, Tidioute, Pa. Also included in the family are Mrs. Donald (Virginia) Patterson and Mrs. Fred (Freeda) Haag, both of Grove City; 11 grandchildren; and 22 great-grandchildren.

Also surviving are: one brother, Robert Hedglin and his wife, Garrnett, Clintonville, Pa.; and three sisters, Mrs. Joseph (Fern) Coon, Kennerdell, Pa.; Mrs. Wilbert K. (Wanda) Sayers, Franklin; and Mrs. Willard (Norma Jean) Crawford, New Castle. Several nieces and nephews also survive.

Besides his two wives, he was preceded in death by his parents; six brothers, an infant, Ellsworth; and Lathe, Lee, Fred, Clyde and Evan Hedglin; and two sisters, Enia and Irene Hedglin.

Charles Havard Hans

Westinghouse retiree, WWII vet was wildlife volunteer

CLERMONT, Ga. -- A funeral service will be held Monday for Charles Havard Hans of 5641 Oscar Gilstrap Road, Clermont, formerly of Hermitage and Lafayette, Ga. He died of natural causes at 12:30 a.m. Thursday, July 18, 2002, in the home of his son in Georgia following a brief illness. He was 81.

Born in Greenville on Thursday, Sept. 16, 1920, he was the son of the late Charles M. and Margaret McGill Hans.

He worked as a draftsman at the former Sharon Transformer Division of Westinghouse Electric Corp. After retiring, he became a full time volunteer for the Georgia Department of Natural Resources, Wildlife Resources Division, from 1988 until 2002.

Mr. Hans had been a member of Covenant Presbyterian Church in Sharon. While living in Georgia, he was a member of Lafayette United Methodist Church.

He enjoyed reading, fishing and spending time with his family.

He was the widower of the former Dorothy McConnell, whom he married June 9, 1945, in Covenant Presbyterian Church. She died July 13, 1988.

Mr. Hans moved from Hermitage to Lafayette following the death of his wife.

He served in World War II in the Army.

He is survived by: a son, Charles, husband of Dr. Robyn Hans, Clermont; two granddaughters, Jessica Hans and Rachel Hans; a sister-in-law, Winifred, wife of Raymond Keifer, Sharpsville; two brothers-in-law, Thomas H. McConnell, husband of Virginia McConnell, Montoursville, Pa.; and Donald L. McConnell, Englewood, Fla.

Besides his wife, he was preceded in death by a brother, Phillip Martin Hans.

Nancy Simons Diehl
Grove City college alumna was active in community

HUDSON, Ohio -- Nancy Simons Diehl, formerly of Greenville, died of cancer at 11:35 a.m. Friday, July 19, 2002, in her home. She was 83.

Mrs. Diehl was born Aug., 23, 1918, in Butler.

A graduate of Grove City College, Mrs. Diehl was president of the Greenville and Mercer County councils of Republican Women; Greenville Hospital Auxiliary; Northwestern Association of Hospital Auxiliaries; and Mercer County Medical Auxiliary.

She was also a member of the boards of trustees of Edinboro University; Greenville Regional Hospital; and the boards of the Salvation Army, Greenville Symphony and McDowell Bank.

Mrs. Diehl married Dr. Gilbert H. Diehl in 1940.

She is survived by: three daughters, Deborah Young and her husband James Young; Huston Diehl and her husband Gerald Wetlaufer; and Eve Sliwinski and her husband Thomas Sliwinski. Six grandchildren and one stepgrandchild also survive.

Her husband; a brother, Robert Simons; and her parents, R. Roscoe and Helen Maxwell Simons preceded her in death.

George Seech, 6733 Warren-Sharon Road, Brookfield, died of natural causes at 11:15 a.m. Friday (7-19-02) in his home. He was 92.
