Today's obituaries Mary E. Redfoot Stanek Hermitage woman worked for Westinghouse, Packard Mary E. Redfoot Stanek, 3257 Longview Road, Hermitage, passed away peacefully at 7:05 a.m. Wednesday (7-31-02) in the hospital of Sharon Regional Health System. She was 80. Mrs. Stanek was born Nov. 9, 1922, in Fairview Township the daughter of Theodore and Dora McCurdy Redfoot. She attended Fredonia schools and graduated from Stoneboro High School class of 1941. A homemaker, she was a member of Church of the Good Shepherd, West Middlesex. At one time, Mrs. Stanek worked at the former Sharon Transformer Division of Westinghouse Electric Corp. and Delphi Packard Electric Systems, Warren, Ohio. She enjoyed golf and had a hole-in-one at Green Meadows Golf Course on Hole No. 9 on Sept. 8, 1991. She enjoyed spending time with her family, especially her six grandchildren. She is survived by her husband, Henry J. "Hank" Stanek, whom she married Jan. 27, 1945. She also leaves two sons, Martin J. Stanek and his wife, Amy, of Allison Park, Pa.; and Leonard H. Stanek and his wife, Carolann, of Sharon Center, Ohio. She also leaves two sisters, Mrs. Erma Barner of Mercer; and Mrs. Robert (Nellie) Jones of Stoneboro; and two brothers, Paul Redfoot of Greensburg, Pa.; and Homer Redfoot of Coolspring Township; and six grandchildren, Greg, Melia, Matt and Daniel Stanek; and Tony and Daniel Stercula. She was preceded in death by her parents; and three sisters, Mrs. Ella Slater, Jane Snyder and Donna Redfoot; and two brothers, Lee and Charles Redfoot.
STANEK Warren J. Seymour World War II Army veteran retired from Sharon Steel A Mass of Christian burial will be Friday (8-2-02) for Warren J. Seymour, Mertz Towers, 52 S. Mercer Ave., Sharpsville. He died at 3:13 p.m. Tuesday (7-30-02) in UPMC Horizon, Farrell, after an extended illness. He was 80. Mr. Seymour was born March 12, 1922, in Ashville, Pa., to Tibertus and Mary Eckenrode Seymour. He was a private first class in the Army during World War II. Mr. Seymour retired in 1970 after 25 years as a slitter operator for Sharon Steel Corp., Farrell He was a member of Our Lady of Fatima Church, the Russian Club and St. Albert's Club, all Farrell; Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 6233, West Middlesex; and American Legion in Loretto, Pa. Mr. Seymour also was an avid fisherman. Surviving are: his wife, the former Pauline E. Hoffman, whom he married April 25, 1946; a sister, Kathleen Weiland, Hermitage; a brother, Charles Seymour and his wife, Lola, Sharon; and several nieces and nephews. His parents, five sisters and two brothers preceded him in death. SEYMOUR

Richard Lester Foster Retired after 33 years as craneman with Sharon Steel Richard Lester Foster, Edgebrook Apartments, RD 2, 379E3, Wilmington Township, Lawrence County, died at 8:45 a.m. Wednesday, July 31, 2002, in the hospital of Jameson Health System, New Castle, after an extended illness. He was 71. Mr. Foster was born Nov. 12, 1930, in Butler to Ray and Hazel Anderson Foster. He retired in 1989 as a craneman after working 33 years at Sharon Steel Corp. Mr. Foster was a member of Allegheny Wesleyan Methodist Church, New Castle; and AFL-CIO Local 1197, Farrell. Surviving are: his wife, the former Codean E. Campbell; three sons, R. Kenneth Foster, West Middlesex; Timothy L. Foster, Volant; and Ray T. Foster, Grove City; five daughters, Mrs. Carey (Arlene) Rhoades, Lexington, N.C.; Mrs. Lloyd (Darlene) Murphy, Amarillo, Texas; Mrs. Samuel (Kathleen) Hohmann, Volant; Lillian I. Foster, Alexandria, Va.; and Judy Ann Foster, New Wilmington; one brother, Ray Foster, Wheatland; 18 grandchildren; and one great-grandson. He was preceded in death by his parents; his guardian parents, Parker and Anna Kelly, who raised him from the time he was 8è years old; one granddaughter, Melody Foster Hohmann, in 1993; two brothers, Harry and William Foster; and one sister, Luella Garcia. FOSTER R. Ann Hovis Beloved Disciple member was self-employed seamstress R. Ann Hovis, 417 Irishtown Road, Pine Township, died at 3:30 a.m. Wednesday, July 31, 2002, in the emergency room of United Community Hospital, Pine Township, after a sudden illness. She was 62. Mrs. Hovis was born Jan. 21, 1940, in Slippery Rock to Howard Charles and Veronica Elizabeth Conrad Crawford. The Slippery Rock High School alumna was a homemaker and a self-employed seamstress. An active member of Church of the Beloved Disciple, Grove City, Mrs. Hovis belonged to its crafts club. Surviving are: her husband, George Hovis, whom she married April 30, 1960; three children, Mrs. Ken (Christine) Miller; and Charles Hovis and his wife, Tammy, all Grove City; and Michael Hovis and his wife, Saskia, Wellsboro, Pa.; three brothers, Leo Crawford and his wife, Roseanne, DuBois, Pa.; Ronald Crawford and his wife, Marian, Minoa, N.Y.; and Robert Crawford and his wife, Dana, Charleston, S.C.; four grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren. HOVIS Gerald A. Harshman Former Herald publisher helped form MC United Way NAPLES, Fla. -- Gerald A. Harshman, Naples, formerly of Sharon, died March 7, 2002, in his home. He was 92. Born July 30, 1909, in West Middlesex, Mr. Harshman became one of the most distinguished citizens of our valley. He was a former publisher of The Herald and was instrumental in forming the first United Way of Mercer County, then known as the Shenango Valley Community Fund. He was the founder and former president of the Valley Hotel Operating Company, which operated the community-owned Shenango Inn. He served as a member of the Salvation Army Advisory Council and received various awards throughout his life for his outstanding and tireless service to many community services and charities. He was a member of First Presbyterian Church of Sharon since his boyhood and served God within his church as an elder, trustee and Sunday school teacher. He is survived by: a son, Gerald A. Harshman Jr., Princeton, N.J.; and two daughters, Mrs. William (Nancy) Lazear, Naples; and Mrs. Robert (Sue) Pullar, Tempe, Ariz. He had nine grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren. Also surviving are: a brother, M.W. Harshman, Athens, Ga.; and a sister-in-law, Gertrude McFarland, Waynesboro, Pa.; and several nieces and nephews.
HARSHMAN Bonnie Loraine Janosky Nugent Convalescent retiree worked on family dairy farm Funeral service will be Saturday (8-3-02) for Bonnie Loraine Janosky, Janosky Road, New Wilmington. She died at 12:51 p.m. Tuesday (7-30-02) in the hospital of Sharon Regional Health System after an extended illness. She was 68. Mrs. Janosky was born June 12, 1934, in Lawsonham, Pa., to Cash and Hazel Nulph Buzard. She attended school in Johnson Hill, Pa., and as raised in Rimersburg, Pa., in Clarion County. Mrs. Janosky enjoyed many years of helping her husband on the family dairy farm. She also retired in 1998 after being employed by Nugent Convalescent Home, Hermitage. She was an avid reader, but her greatest joy in life was spending time with her grandchildren. Her husband, Chester Janosky, whom she married July 19, 1957, died Feb. 12, 2000. Surviving are: one daughter, Mrs. Joseph (Mary) Svarny, Masury; two sons, Gary Janosky and his wife, Denice, New Wilmington; and Terry Janosky and his wife, Robin, Strongsville, Ohio; three sisters, Connie Refsnider of Hermitage; Evelyn Fair of Utica, Pa.; and Betty Courson of Brookfield; one stepsister, Patty Reed of Madison, Ohio; and six grandchildren, Hannah Svarny; and Justyn, Jason, Michelle, Megan and Kyle Janosky. Besides her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents; one sister, Larue Buzard; four brothers, Hilton, Ronald, Cash E. and infant William Buzard; and one grandson, Joseph Janosky. In lieu of flowers the family requests memorial contributions be made to the Shenango Valley Children's Transplant Fund, c/o First National Bank of Pennsylvania, 7 W. JANOSKY Dorothy E. Sidley Dorothy E. Sidley, Ridgewood at St. Paul Homes, West Salem Township, formerly of 1590 Huffman Drive, Warren, Ohio, passed away at 5:30 a.m. today (8-1-02) in Trumbull Memorial Hospital, Warren. She was 92. Obituary information was incomplete.
SIDLEY Brandon James Kyle McKenzie Hogenmiller Greenville boy enjoyed ocean, cartoons, dinosaurs Brandon James Kyle McKenzie Hogenmiller, 14 Ohl St. Greenville, passed away at 11:25 a.m. Tuesday, July 30, 2002, in his home after an extended illness. He was 5. Brandon was born Nov. 7, 1996, in Greenville to Mark Anthony Sewinsky and Billie J. Hogenmiller. He was baptized at First Baptist Church in Greenville and attended the Head Start Program at Hempfield (Township) Elementary School. Brandon loved going to the ocean and collecting seashells. He also collected Beanie Babies. On television, he enjoyed watching Sponge Bob, Scoobie Doo and monster trucks. Brandon also enjoyed riding his bike, playing outside and dinosaurs. Surviving are: his mother and stepfather, Richard Brest, at home; his father, Sharon; two brothers, Michael Hogenmiller and Aaron Brest, at home; three sisters, Krysta, Celeste and Emily Sewinsky, all Sharon; his grandparents, Donna Hogenmiller, Tom and Karen Black and Don and Lucy Stewart, all Greenville; and Frank Sewinsky, Sharon; his aunts, Donna Mareno and Amy Sewinsky, both Greenville; Ilene Kline, Erie; and Bess Moran, in Virginia; and an uncle, Lewis Hogenmiller, Sharon. He was preceded in death by his maternal great-grandparents, Daniel and Stella Marie Vasbinder; his paternal great-grandparents, Henry and Margaret Sewinsky; and a cousin, Erica Spon.
