Richard M. Drahuschak
Grove City Optical founder, owner also was social worker

Richard M. Drahuschak, 51 Gasper Road, Pine Township, formerly of Carbon, Pa., died at 2:13 a.m. Thursday (8-1-02) in the emergency room of United Community Hospital, Pine Township, after a three-year illness. He was 63.

Mr. Drahuschak was born Oct. 18, 1938, in Carbon to Michael Richard and Mary Panella Drahuschak.

He was a social worker. Mr. Drahuschak worked for several local agencies in community mental health positions. He was a counselor, worked with mentally handicapped patients and the elderly and conducted human relations seminars. Mr. Drahuschak also was a wraparound.

He had worked for Youth Advocate Program and Mercer County Area Agency on Aging, both Mercer; Community Counseling Center, Hermitage; and Belmont Pines Psychiatric Hospital, Youngstown.

Mr. Drahuschak was founder and owner of Grove City Optical, which has been in Grove City for the past 25 years and is managed by his wife.

He was a member of Church of the Beloved Disciple, Grove City, and graduated from Youngstown State University with a bachelor's degree in history.

Mr. Drahuschak was a Ham Radio operator with the call letters K3CWT.

Surviving are: his wife, the former Jeannette "Jenny" E. Frank, whom he married April 23, 1966; four children, Michael R. Drahuschak, Lakewood, Ohio; Jennifer R. Drahuschak, Henderson, Nev.; Mrs. Ellis (Lizabeth A.) Heath, Grove City; and Jacob D. Drahuschak, and his wife, Nicole, Lakewood; and one brother, Andrew Drahuschak, and his wife, Olga, Youngstown.

His parents; one sister, Mina Drahuschak; and one brother, Paul Drahuschak, preceded him in death.

David Germano

Sharon Steel retiree belonged to Farrell Christian Assembly

Funeral service will be Saturday (8-3-02) for David Germano, 373 Harrison St., Sharon. He passed away of a heart ailment at 5:39 p.m. Wednesday (7-31-02) in the emergency room of St. Elizabeth Heath Center, Youngstown. He was 65.

Mr. Germano was born April 4, 1937, in Farrell the son of Paul and Elizabeth Venezio Germano.

He attended Farrell schools.

Mr. Gemano worked for Sharon Steel Corp.'s former Farrell plant, where he was a torch repairman in their machine shop, retiring in 1992.

He was a member of Farrell Christian Assembly of God.

An outdoorsman, he loved to hunt, fish and spend time at his mountain cabin. He also was famous for his love of cooking.

In his earlier years, he coached minor league baseball for the Sharon American Division.

His greatest joy was his family, especially his grandchildren and attending their sporting events.

His wife, the former Mary Ann Slatery, whom he married May 16, 1959, survives at home.

Also surviving are two daughters, Mrs. Robert (Dana) States of Hermitage; and Mrs. Tim (Lisa) Clark of Sharon; and one son, David Paul Germano of Sharon and a son-in-law, Charles W. Haun. Also surviving are four sisters, Pauline Brest, Mrs. Eugene (Anna) Fout and Mrs. Gabriel (Virginia) Develli, all of Sharpsville; and Betty Butler of Sharon; and his mother-in-law, Elnora Tice, Farrell.

Ten grandchildren also surviving are Megan A., Daniel M. and Robert D. States; Mary F., Nicole M. and Charles W. Haun III; Rachel E. Rhoades; Timothy A. Clark; Bryanna L. and Brittany L. Germano; and two stepgrandchildren, Patricia L. and C.R. Krivosh.

He was preceded in death by his parents; three brothers, John "Jas," Orlando and William "Gully" Germano; two sisters, Marion DiClaudio and Helen Germano; and his daughter, Cathy "Sue" Haun, who passed away Nov. 5, 2001.

Patricia R. Craig Brown

Former Grove City area resident worked as nurse

Patricia R. Craig Brown, Coral Springs, Fla., formerly of the Grove City area, died at 8:30 p.m. July 28, 2002, in the residence of her son, Larry G. Brown and his wife, Wendy, Coral Springs. She was 56.

She was born Oct. 27, 1945, in Grove City to William J. Craig Sr. and Eleanor M. Rueckheim Craig.

She graduated from Mercer County Vocational Technical School as a licensed practical nurse; and from Slippery Rock University, with a bachelor's degree in health and human services and a second major in HFA for art.

She was employed by Correctional Care Association, Youngstown; EMSA Prison Medical Services; Prison Medical Systems; Rolling Fields Nursing Home, Conneautville, Pa., as a restorative nurse; Karns City (Pa.) Elementary School as a health room technician; C-D Unit coordinator, medical records and central supply of Autumn Grove Care Center, Harrisville.

She was a member of Pittsburgh Metalsmith Association, Pittsburgh Society of Artists, Eta Sigma Gamma-National Health System, American Public Health Association and Pennsylvania Health Association.

She was of the Protestant faith and was a loving and proud mother and grandmother.

Surviving besides her son, Larry and his wife, are: one daughter, Mrs. Justin (Christina M.) Schulte, Davie, Fla.; one son, James B. Gooden, Ogden, Utah; seven grandchildren; a former husband and dear friend, Wayne A. Gooden of Martinsburg, W.Va., and the father of her first son; one sister, Mrs. James H. (Margaret) Shay, Slippery Rock.

Her parents; and one brother, William J. Craig Jr., preceded her in death.

Viola 'Vi' Danner

Retired Penney's supervisor was Christ Lutheran member

Funeral service will be Saturday (8-3-02) for Viola "Vi" Danner, Hermitage. She died at 10 p.m. Wednesday, July 31, 2002, in the Hospice of Western Reserve, Cleveland. She was 86.

Mrs. Danner was born Feb. 5, 1916, in Sharon to Byron and Wilda Boyer Rogers.

She was supervisor in the catalog department for 25 years with JCPenney Co. Inc. in Hermitage.

Mrs. Danner was a member of Christ Lutheran Church, Sharon, and was baptized March 5, 1916.

The Church Women United member sang in her church's choir and was adult leader and vice president of the board of Girl Scouts and helped organize new troops.

Her husband, Charles F. Danner, whom she married June 22, 1934, died Oct. 30, 1995.

Surviving are: two grandchildren, Hallee O'Brien and her husband, Kevin, of Rocky River, Ohio; and Todd Arena of Cleveland; her son-in-law, Robert Arena of Bessemer; and two sisters, Wilda Hodges of Haines City, Fla.; and Grace Cooper of Holmes Beach, Fla.

Besides her husband, she was preceded in death by two daughters, Linda Grace Arena and Joyce Ellen Danner.

Dorothy E. Sidley

Fredonia native was member of Bethany Presbyterian

Funeral and committal service will be Monday (8-5-02) for Dorothy E. Sidley, the Ridgewood at St. Paul Homes, West Salem Township, formerly of 1590 Huffman Drive, Warren, Ohio. She passed away at 5:30 a.m. Thursday (8-1-02) in Trumbull Memorial Hospital, Warren. She was 92.

Mrs. Sidley was born May 19, 1910, in Fredonia to Daniel and Harriet S. Knauf Redfoot.

She was employed as a sales clerk for more than 10 years at Diamond Wholesale of Revenna, Ohio, retiring in the mid-1980s. She was previously employed at Crystal Wholesale in Warren as a sales clerk in the jewelry department.

Prior to that job, Mrs. Sidley worked at Schultz Drug Store in Warren as a sales clerk and pie maker. Prior to that, she was a clerk at the Corner Pharmacy, Greenville.

Mrs. Sidley was a member of Bethany Presbyterian Church, Mercer; Lordstown (Ohio) Garden Club and Chit Chat Club. She was a former member of Stoney Point Grange in Mercer County.

Her husband, John A. Sidley, whom she married April 10, 1951, died in March 1990.

Surviving are: one sister, Garnet Ruffing, Transfer; two sisters-in-law, Viola Redfoot and Ann Redfoot, both Greenville; and several nieces and nephews.

Besides her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents; five brothers, Clyde, Earl, George, Paul and James Redfoot; and one sister, Elsie Hess.

Suzanne Canady Ischo

Was active life member

of Holy Trinity Lutheran

Suzanne Canady Ischo, 82, of 773 Valley View Drive NE, Brookfield, went home to be with her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, at 11:53 a.m. Wednesday, July 31, 2002 in Manor Care, Westerville, Ohio, after fighting brain cancer.

She is now reunited with her loving husband, John L. Ischo, whom she married June 27, 1942. He died March 21, 1986.

Born Dec. 31, 1919, in Sharon to Andrew and Mary Canadyshe was raised in Sharon. Suzanne had fond memories of siblings, infant Mary Rose, deceased; Joseph Canady, deceased; Eleanor Crisan of Wheatland; Andrew Canady of Sharpsville; Margaret Yannerilla of Sharon; Wilma Stull of Round Rock, Texas; and cousin, Andrew Melenchek, deceased.

She worked in the Sharon Transformer Division of Westinghouse Electric Corp., G.C. Murphy Co., and Valley View Department Store.

After Suzanne and John were married, they lived on Syme Street in Masury. John, a mason and member of the Brookfield Conservation Club, built their home on Valley View in Brookfield.

With loving arms she raised John, of Brookfield, with wife Tracey; and Frances Mangino, living with her husband, Patrick, of Westervile, Ohio.

Suzanne loved and always saw the best in all her grandchildren, Bryan, Mathew and Kyle Ischo; Heather Germadnik; Ian Peyton; and Ashley Mangino. She is also loved by four great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.

As a life member of Holy Trinity Lutheran Church, Hermitage, Suzanne worked tirelessly with the ladies of the Dorcas Society at church dinners, weddings, funerals and celebrations. Often you would find her in the kitchen up to her elbows in noodles, nut rolls and stuffed cabbage, while keeping track of the church board. Her heart touched the souls of many people, whom she visited in their time of need.

The president of Aid Association for Lutherans, she was past president of the Ruth Altar Guild for 20 years and belonged to the Church Council. Mrs. Ischo was a money counter, greeter, reader, communion assistant and usher.

She also was a member of AARP, the retired person's association.

Suzanne was grateful to all her friends who remembered her in their prayers and who constantly sent cards through her illness. She cherished every word that was written.
