Michael A. Kleck
Erie Countian was PSU grad, had brother in Grove City

HARBORCREEK TOWNSHIP, ERIE COUNTY -- Michael A. Kleck, Harborcreek Township, Erie County, died at 6:50 p.m. Saturday (8-3-02) at Ball Pavilion full care center after an extended illness. He was 50.

Mr. Kleck was born March 6, 1952, in Oil City, a son of Genevieve Karg Kleck and the late Bernard Kleck.

He resided in Erie since 1975.

He was an active member of St. James Roman Catholic Church in Erie; and had served on the school board, athletic board for 12 years, finance council, and as an Eucharistic minister and lector.

He graduated from Venango Christian High School, Class of 1970.

He was also a 1974 graduate of Pennsylvania State University, earning a bachelor's degree in computer science.

He was a computer senior systems analyst with General Electric Co. for 23 years and was a member of the Elfun Society. He was a graduate of the company's Manufacturing Management (training) Program.

Besides his mother, Genevieve Karg Kleck Weaver, he is survived by: his wife, the former Karen Osiecki, with whom he would have celebrated his 25th wedding anniversary Oct. 1. He is also survived by: one daughter, Christine Kleck; and two sons, Matthew and Timothy Kleck, all at home; four sisters, Judy Huefner and her husband Rich, Spartanburg, S.C.; Mary Pilewski and her husband Vic, Oil City; Catherine Gates and her husband, Robert, Oil City; and Patricia Bates, Meadville; and three brothers, John Kleck and his wife Juana (Techy), Pleasantville; William Kleck and his wife Paula, Grove City; and David Kleck and his wife Vicki, Beaver.

He also leaves many nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles and cousins.

Besides his father, he was preceded in death by his stepfather, Les Weaver.

The Rev. John McCastle, Masury, died at 5:40 p.m. Monday (8-5-02) in Orange Village Nursing Home, Masury. He was 89.

Teresa K. Fagan Dietrich

Former Isaly's, Ideal Bakery worker lived in Sharon

Teresa K. Fagan Dietrich of 440 Meek St., Sharon, died of natural causes at 7:30 a.m. Monday, Aug. 5, 2002, in Nugent Convalescent Home, Hermitage, after a brief illness. She was 94.

Mrs. Dietrich was the widow of Leo P. Dietrich, whom she married Dec. 29, 1960. He died Jan. 13, 1990. Her first husband, Clayton J. Fagan, whom she married Nov. 21, 1929, died Nov. 3, 1954.

Born in Brooklyn, N.Y. on Tuesday, Oct. 15, 1907, Mrs. Dietrich was a daughter of the late Peter and Margaret Strittmatter.

She had worked as a clerk at the former Ideal Bakery in Sharon for several years. Previously, she had worked at the former Isaly's dairy stores in Sharon.

She was a member of Church of the Sacred Heart in Sharon.

Teresa enjoyed playing cards, traveling and spending time with her family.

She is survived by: a daughter, Zelda T, wife of Joseph J. Gavala, Sharon; a daughter, Louise M. Canon, Wilmington, Del.; a son, Roy J., husband of Paulette Fagan, Streamwood, Ill.; and a son, Howard C., husband of Mary Lou Fagan, Akron. She is also survived by 13 grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren.

Besides her parents and her first and second husbands, Mrs. Dietrich was preceded in death by two sisters, two brothers and two grandsons.

Elizabeth Dzurinda

St. Michael's Byzantine member was salesperson

BOARDMAN, Ohio -- Elizabeth Dzurinda, Boardman, formerly of the Shenango Valley, died of natural causes at 12:17 p.m. Monday, Aug. 5, 2002, in Sateri Home, 960 Boardman-Canfield Road, Boardman. She was 94.

Mrs. Dzurinda was born July 26, 1908, in Sharon, to Michael Kessel and Mary Billen Kessel.

A lifelong salesperson, she was employed at the Livingston Store in Philadelphia, and later at the former Routman Store in Sharon.

As a member of St. Michael's Byzantine Catholic church in Hermitage, Mrs. Dzurinda belonged to the Rosary Society, St. Michael's Social Club and the church choir.

She loved to cook, bake and travel. She was a coin collector and a stamp collector, and enjoyed spending time with her family.

Mrs. Dzurinda also belonged to the Sunshine Club in Chester, Pa.

Her husband, Thomas Dzurinda, whom she married July 15, 1930, died July 19, 1982.

Surviving are: a sister, Anna Kessel Bross, Sharon; and several nieces and nephews; and great-nieces and -nephews.

Besides her husband, Mrs. Dzurinda was preceded in death by her parents; one sister, Mary Cook; and one brother, Michael Kessel.

Evelyn A. Waliga

Retired Ky. state police clerk was formerly of Sharon

LEXINGTON, Ky. -- Evelyn A. Waliga, Lexington, Ky., formerly of Sharon, died Tuesday morning, July 30, 2002, in her home. She was 64.

Miss Waliga was born Sept. 10, 1937, in New Castle, a daughter of the late John and Sylvia Black Waliga.

She was a retired clerk with the Kentucky State Police.

Miss Waliga is survived by her brother, James Waliga and his wife Evelyn, Brandon, Fla.

No services are scheduled.


Audrey M. Moore Edeburn
East Liverpool native had sons living in Mercer County

Audrey M. Moore Edeburn, Countryside Convalescent Home, East Lackawannock Township, passed away at 12:17 p.m. Sunday (8-4-02) in UPMC Horizon, Farrell, after an illness. She was 79.

Born March 30, 1923, in East Liverpool, Ohio, Mrs. Edeburn was a daughter of William R. and Marie Funkhouser.

Mrs. Edeburn was a Protestant by faith.

Surviving are: one daughter, Mrs. Rodger (Sandra) Younkins, Akron, Ohio; five sons, Terrence Moore, North Washington, Butler County; William R. Moore and James Moore, both Mercer; Rodney Moore, Greenville; and Delbert Moore, Sharpsville; 23 grandchildren; and 30 great-grandchildren.

A number of nieces and nephews also survive.

Mrs. Edeburn was preceded in death by her parents; her first and second husbands, William R. Moore and William Edeburn, respectively; as well as two sisters; and one brother.

Wheatland woman was PTA officer, Red Cross volunteer

Beulah Hall, a lifelong resident of Wheatland, has died at the age of 94.

She was born in McDonald, Pa., the only child of Lincoln L. Jefferson and Hilda Elizabeth Jefferson.

She had been a resident of Wheatland since early childhood, especially enjoying her elementary school years at Number Nine School.

The family moved to Wheatland after the death of her father.

She attended Waynesburg (Pa.) College along with her cousin, Attorney George G. Jefferson of Washington, D.C.

Later in her life, Mrs. Hall continued her education, studying Mortuary Science at Echols College in Philadelphia and completed her apprenticeship in Mortuary Science at Harold B. Mulligan Funeral Home, Philadelphia.

She loved the rural community in which she lived and spent many joyous hours attending her flower garden and spacious yard.

After the death of her husband, Dr. Clyde W. Hall of Youngstown, she devoted all of her time and interest to her children, Peter Hall and Carol Hall Patrick. She was a most beloved mother. During the time her children attended high school, Mrs. Hall served as president of the Farrell High School Parent Teachers Association and was a longtime dedicated volunteer for the Mercer County unit of the American Red Cross.

Her remains have been cremated. A memorial Mass will be scheduled at a later date.


Robert O. Venetta Sr.

Sharon Steel retiree enjoyed gardening, attending auctions

A funeral service will be held Wednesday for Robert O. Venetta Sr. of 2090 S. Neshannock Road, Hermitage. He died of natural causes at 7:05 p.m. Sunday, Aug, 4, 2002, in UPMC Horizon, Farrell, after a brief illness. He was 87.

Mr. Venetta was the husband of Edith M. Weiser Venetta, whom he married Dec. 7, 1936.

Born on Friday, Sept. 11, 1914, in Hermitage, he was a son of the late James and Minnie Miller Venetta.

He was employed as a craneman at the former Sharon Steel Corp.'s Farrell plant, from which he retired after 30 years.

Mr. Venetta was an avid gardener and enjoyed watching wrestling matches on television. He also liked to attend auctions in the area.

In his younger years, he was a hunter and a fisherman.

He was of the Protestant faith.

In addition to his wife, Mr. Venetta is survived by: a daughter, Edith M. Aiken, Mercer; and a son, Robert O. Venetta Jr., husband of Violet Venetta, Hermitage. He is also survived by five grandchildren, 10 great-grandchildren and a great-great-granddaughter.

Besides his parents, Mr. Venetta was preceded in death by a brother, Darrell Venetta; and two sisters, Merle Helen Venetta and Claire Miller.

Michael Dorfi
Romania native served

in church, club in Sharon

Michael Dorfi, Orange Village Care Center, Masury, formerly of 3847 Wynwood Drive, South Pymatuning Township, died at 7:27 a.m. Monday, Aug. 5, 2002, in the hospital of Sharon Regional Health System after an extended illness. He was 80.

Mr. Dorfi was born Jan. 30, 1922, in Treppen, Romania, to Michael Dorfi and Katharina Fuhrmann Dorfi.

He attended school in Romania and then became a journeyman through a carpenter trade school in Romania. He later worked as a carpenter through Local 268 of Carpenters union in Sharon.

Mr. Dorfi was a member of Sts. Peter and Paul Evangelical Lutheran Church in Sharon, where he served on the finance committee and was a past trustee. He also helped around the church as a handyman, fixing things.

He also belonged to the Maenerchor Club, Sharon, for which he was a past vice president. He was a former member of the Saxon Club, Farrell; and belonged to the Mercer County Federation of Clubs.

Mr. Dorfi enjoyed dancing and singing, singing with the choir of the Maenerchor Club.

He enjoyed his grandchildren.

Surviving are: his wife, the former Eva Gehl, Hermitage, whom he married Feb. 2, 1946, in Linz, Austria; two daughters, Mrs. Robert (Edeltraud "Traudi") Sulek, Hermitage; and Mrs. Lawrence (Ingrid) Wozniak, Mercer; three sons, Walter Dorfi and his wife Pam, Hermitage; Michael Dorfi, State College, Pa.; and Richard Dorfi, Sharpsville; one sister, Maria Dorfi, Romania; three brothers, Martin, Mathias and George Dorfi, all Germany; nine grandchildren, Cindy Pietrandrea; Christine Hamilton; Anne, William and Mandi Dorfi; Ryan Manes, Staff Sgt. Lesi Lyons, Kristin Piccirilli and Airman 1st Class Jesse Wozniak; and seven great-grandchildren.
    Mr. Dorfi was preceded in death by his parents and one brother, John Dorfi.

Mary Ellen Hayes
Wheatland woman was former waitress, WWII vet

Mary Ellen Hayes, 73 Mercer Ave., Wheatland, died at 10:30 a.m. Monday, Aug. 5, 2002, in her home. She was 86.

Mary Ellen was born May 19, 1916, in Farrell, a daughter of Frank Joseph Ritchie and Mary Domenica Ritchie.

She had been a waitress at the former Sarcinella Restaurant in Farrell.

Mary Ellen also served with the Women's Army Corps during World War II and was honorably discharged.

Surviving are: two sons in Colorado; and two sisters, Carmel King, Stockton, Calif.; and Mrs. Walter (Rose) Johnson, Shenango Township.

Mary Ellen was preceded in death by her parents; two sons; three sisters, Frances Ranallo, Susan McGunigal and Kathryn McGhee; and three brothers, Albert, Peter and Edward Ritchie.

Frieda A. Fairchild

Sharon homemaker was known for roses, embroidery

A memorial service will be held at a later date for Frieda A. Fairchild of 347 Ellsworth St., Sharon. She passed away at 11:15 a.m. Sunday, Aug. 4, 2002, in Clepper Manor, Sharon. She was 82.

Born April 7, 1920, in Farrell, Mrs. Fairchild was a daughter of the late Michael and Regina Eckerd Reinnerth.

A 1938 graduate of Farrell High School, she also graduated from Youngstown State University with an associate's degree in business.

Frieda was a proud homemaker who, prior to her marriage, was employed at the former Sharon Transformer Division of Westinghouse Electric Corp.

She was a member of First United Methodist Church in Sharon; the Saxon Club, Farrell; and the Ladies Auxiliary of American Legion Post 299, also Sharon.

She was well-known in her community for her beautiful rose gardens and embroidery.

Mrs. Fairchild was a U.S. Navy World War II veteran who held a storekeeper/clerical position.

Survivors include: her husband, Gerald D. Fairchild Sr., whom she married Aug. 7, 1954; four daughters, Mrs. David B. (Charlene A.) Dayton, Lyndhurst, Ohio; Mrs. Warren (Deborah E.) Vesty, New Jersey; Lynne M. Fairchild, Hermitage; and Deanna S. Fairchild, Northfield Center, Ohio; three sons, Gerald D. Fairchild Jr. and his wife Peggy, Sharpsville; Robert M. Fairchild and his wife Chris, Hamburg; and James M. Fairchild, West Middlesex; three sisters, Mrs. Fred (Johanna) Schuster and Anne Bender, both New Castle; and Mrs. Richard (Matilda) Lenigan, Pittsburgh; and six grandchildren.

In addition to her parents, Frieda was preceded in death by three sisters, two infants as well as Hilda Snyder.
