Catharine F. Joyce Longtime Sharpsville resident was Bell retiree A funeral Mass will be held Monday for Catharine F. Joyce, 504 Walnut St., Sharpsville. She died at 1:45 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 5, 2002, of natural causes in the hospital of Sharon Regional Health System after an extended illness. She was 93. Miss Joyce was born April 17, 1909, in Sharpsville to Peter Joyce and Norah Murray Joyce. A graduate and final remaining member of her Sharpsville High School Class of 1927, She retired in 1974 after 47 years of employment with Bell Telephone Co. of Pennsylvania, where she was an operator, clerk and supervisor. Miss Joyce was a member of St. Bartholomew's Church in Sharpsville and the church Altar-Rosary Society. She also belonged to Bell Telephone Pioneers; John XXIII Home Auxiliary, Hermitage; American Legion Auxiliary Unit 162, Sharpsville; and was the oldest member of Catholic Daughters of the Americas Court 507, Sharon. Surviving are: one brother, Peter J. Joyce, Sharpsville; six nephews; two nieces; and 22 grandnieces and grandnephews. Miss Joyce was preceded in death by her parents; three sisters, Mary Dever, Nora Joyce and Bridget Joyce; and one brother, Patrick Joyce. Memorial contributions may be made to St. Bartholomew's Church, 311 Ridge Ave., Sharpsville 16150; Bethany House Services, 1841 Fairmont Ave., Cincinnati 45214; John XXIII Home, 2250 Shenango Valley Freeway, Hermitage 16148; or to a charity of the donor's choice.
JOYCE Charles 'Chuck' William Confer Jr. '78 GGHS grad was sales rep for Butler company Charles "Chuck" William Confer Jr., 762 Barkeyville Road, Pine Township, died at 2 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 4, 2002, in his residence after a brief illness. He was 42. Mr. Confer was born April 26, 1960, in Grove City to Charles W. Confer Sr. and Emma Jane Bell Confer. A graduate of Grove City High School Class of 1978, he attended Slippery Rock University. Mr. Confer was a sales representative for C.W.G. Direct of Butler; and also worked at Polk Center. He was of the Baptist faith. He was a conversationalist and an avid sports fan of the Pittsburgh Steelers and Pittsburgh Pirates. Surviving are: his father, Charles W. Confer Sr., Palmyra, Pa.; his mother, Emma Jane Bell, Grove City; one sister, Rhonda Bell, Grove City; one brother, Frank James Confer, Sharon; and two nephews, Dylan Confer and Kyle Edmonds. Mr. Confer was preceded in death by his grandparents, John and Isabelle Coast, who reared him; and his grandmother, Elsie Mae Shirey.
