Gerald M. Walsh Former Sharon man enjoyed outdoor activities DOTHAN, Ala. -- Gerald M. Walsh, 104 Mourningdove Way, Dothan, formerly of Sharon, passed away Tuesday (3-11-03) in his residence after a brief illness. He was 63. Mr. Walsh was born July 16, 1939, in Warren, Ohio, to George and Marilouise Kibler Walsh. He attended Sharon schools and graduated in 1957 from Hickory High School, Hermitage. Soon after graduation, Mr. Walsh enlisted in the Navy, serving aboard the aircraft carrier, U.S.S. Saratoga as a radar specialist. He was employed by E & H Steel, Dothan, as a project manager for 10 years. Mr. Walsh enjoyed many outdoor activities including sailing and golf. He is survived by: his sisters, Patricia A. Piccirilli, Sharon; Carole Wilcox, Hermitage; and one brother, George V. Walsh and his wife Debbie, Port Jervis, N.Y. He was preceded in death by his parents.
Donald S. Jones Lifelong Hubbard resident owned Broadway Diner Donald S. Jones, Hubbard, died Friday morning, March 14, 2003, in St. Elizabeth Health Center. He was 84. Mr. Jones was born Jan. 14, 1919, in Youngstown, a son of Herbert and Madeline Gross Jones. He was a lifelong area resident. Mr. Jones owned and operated the Broadway Diner in Youngstown for 25 years; was a foreman for McKenzie Muffler for 20 years; and also worked for the Youngstown Water Department, retiring in 1987. He was a member of St. Patrick's Church, Hubbard, and served with the U.S. Army during World War II. Mr. Jones was a 1937 graduate of Ursuline High School in Youngstown; a member of the Ursuline Boosters; and enjoyed woodworking, yard work, baseball, boating and camping. His first wife, the former Annabelle Faloon, whom he married on Oct. 19, 1941, died March 9, 1979. He leaves: his second wife, the former Anna Keil, whom he married on March 27, 1982; two sons, Donald P. Jones, Howland; and William G. Jones and his wife Bonnie, Girard, Ohio; two stepsons, Mark Matas, Costa Mesa, Calif.; and Aaron J. Matas, Transfer; a daughter, Shirley A. Libeg and her husband Thomas, Masury; a stepdaughter, Pamela J. Nalywaiko and her husband, George, Anderson, Ind.; 17 grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. His parents; a son, Robert M. Jones; and two brothers, George and Charles Jones preceded him in death.
Harvey O. Dilley Sharon Steel retiree served in Navy during WWII Harvey O. Dilley, 3756 Saranac Drive, Sharpsville, died at 6:35 a.m. Friday, March 14, 2003, in the hospital of Sharon Regional Health System after a brief illness. He was 80. Mr. Dilley was born April 19, 1922, in Sharon to Howard Dilley and Myrtle Gaines Dilley. An alumnus of Hickory High School Class of 1940, he was employed for 36 years at the former Sharon Steel Corp.'s Farrell plant. Mr. Dilley retired as a craneman in 1984. He was a U.S. Navy veteran, having served during World War II. He was a member of First United Methodist Church, Sharpsville; and Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 7599, Reynolds. Mr. Dilley enjoyed bowling and traveling; and playing pool with family and friends. His wife, the former Evelyn L. Cookson, whom he married on Aug. 2, 1947, died March 4, 1995. Surviving are: a daughter, Sandra L. Gregory, Brookfield; a son, Dale I. and his wife Bonnie Dilley, Sharpsville; two brothers, Raymond Dilley and his wife Marilyn, Sharpsville; and Wade Dilley and his wife Jean, San Antonio, Texas; five grandchildren, Eric B. Gregory, Christine R. Brest, Tracy L. Lipscomb, Barbara Gregory and Brenna Dilley; and one great-grandson, Benjamin Dilley. Besides his wife, Mr. Dilley was preceded in death by his parents; and a daughter, Karen Faye Dilley. Memorial contributions may be made to First United Methodist Church, 148 E. Elizabeth 'Betty' U. Kaibas Family matriarch was active church member Elizabeth "Betty" U. Kaibas, Hermitage, formerly of Laird Avenue in Wheatland passed away at 12:20 a.m. Saturday (3-15-03) in Hospitality Care Center, Hermitage. She was 94. Mrs. Kaibas was born Feb. 3, 1909, in Farrell, a daughter of Anton J. Zimmerman and Mary Prieninger Zimmerman. A lifelong area resident, Elizabeth attended Farrell schools. She was a homemaker and an active member of St. Adalbert's Church in Farrell, where she belonged to the Infant of Prague Guild and the Pirogi Club. Elizabeth was also a past president of the Parent Teacher Association at the former St. Adalbert parochial grade school. Elizabeth enjoyed baking and cooking for the enjoyment of others. Her husband, Julius Kaibas, whom she married on Sept. 4, 1933, in Holy Trinity Catholic Church, Farrell, passed away on Oct. 8, 1979. Surviving are: one daughter, Ursula Goda, wife of John Goda, Wheatland; three sons, George E. Kaibas and his wife Violet, Farrell; J. Timothy Kaibas, Sharpsville; and James T. Kaibas and his wife Judy, Hermitage; 10 grandchildren, Yvonne Kostka, Timothy Goda, Deborah Golub, Susan Barnish, John Sucin, George Rock, Lani and Bethany Kaibas; and Aaron and Renee Kaibas; and four great-grandchildren, Adam, Brianna, Toma and Elizabeth. Besides her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents; one daughter, Lilibeth; five brothers, Anthony, James, William, Francis and John Zimmerman; three sisters, Mary Dietz, Helen Snyder and Rose Zimmerman; and one daughter-in-law, Cherilyn Kaibas.
