newsie Local news headlines
Saturday, Dec. 5, 1998

These are the top stories in today's print edition. Pick up a copy on the newsstand or contact us for convenient home delivery.

The full text of these stories is NOT online (unless you see the headline is a link). Posting headlines is our first step toward increased posting of local news and photos.

Summaries of the week's news appear in the Sunday edition. Current and past chronologies are posted on our site. Day-by-day links to past headlines and death records also are on our server.

Bureaus closed

Herald offices in Mercer and Greenville closed officially on Monday.

Customers should call The Herald's main office at 981-6100 or toll-free at (800) 981-1692 with questions about news, advertising or circulation.

The Herald soon will set up drop boxes in Greenville and Mercer for payments and other items. Until those are set up, customers should mail correspondence to The Herald, Box 51, Sharon 16146.

Light tour info sought

Again this year, The Herald would like to take its readers on a tour of homes and neighborhoods with the best holiday decorations.

If you know of a house that should be included on our list, call 981-6100 or (800) 981-1692 and ask for Karen Coates, Ext. 307, or Kelley Dorus, Ext. 242. The deadline is 4 p.m. Tuesday. (12/8/98)

Callers who leave voice-mail messages are asked to give their street address, town or township and a brief description of the display.

Today's death record
