Fire, police, schools will use cameras
Sharon has a new way of looking at fires, hunting down criminals and finding lost people thanks to two new thermal imaging cameras delivered Friday.
The cameras will be shared by fire and police departments and Sharon schools, police said. Council approved buying the cameras, which cost about $20,000 together, in March.
One camera will always be on the road for fire and police use. The other will be kept at either Sharon schools or the city building, police said.
"Though mainly used as a fire tool in the past, now it’s being used for search and rescue missions," said police Chief Raymond C. Greene. "It can be good for any situation where a search is being done in the dark for a lost child or suspects," he added.
Police and fire personnel will be trained to use the cameras next week.
