MERCER COUNTY

Head Start programs secure federal funding

Mercer County Head Start and Early Head Start will receive a combined $2,185,677 from the federal government to help fund programs during the 2000-01 school year.

Ron Errett, CEO of Mercer County Community Action Agency -- which has overseen Head Start since 1966 -- said the program will serve at least 298 pre-school children and their families from July 1 to June 30, 2001, Errett said.

Early Head Start, which is in its second year, will serve 66 pregnant women, infants and toddlers across the county, Errett said. The program is slated to receive $450,427, he added.

"Head Start continues to thrive because of its unique approach of involving the entire family," Errett said.

"We are pleased to be the grantee for this program and we appreciate the total collaborative effort that has made it so successful."

For more information about the programs, the Head Start office in Farrell can be reached at 346-4482. The Early Head Start office in Greenville can be reached at 589-0415.
