Woman critical in St. E’s after crash

A New Castle woman who was thrown from her car in a Monday morning accident in Shenango Township is in St. Elizabeth Health Center in Youngstown.

Betty J. Butera, 32, was in critical condition this morning, a hospital spokesperson said. A spokesperson for St. Elizabeth’s said Tuesday that Ms. Butera was not in the facility though local police said she was taken there.

Ms. Butera was northbound on state Route 60 when her car went off the right side of the road while passing the Route 18 exit ramp. The car went off an embankment and fell about 25 feet down to Route 18.

A section of Route 18 was closed for nearly an hour and a helicopter landed on the roadway to take Ms. Butera to the hospital.
