Geraldine Barrett

Homemaker was member of First Presbyterian Church

Funeral will be Thursday (8-3-00) for Geraldine Barrett, 260 Donation Road, Hempfield Township. She died at 9:40 p.m. Sunday (7-30-00) in St. Paul Homes, West Salem Township. She was 80.

Mrs. Barrett was born May 14, 1920, in Kerrmoor, Pa., to Ray A. and Letty McCully Wolfe.

The alumna of Curwensville (Pa.) High School was a member of First Presbyterian Church, Greenville, and of Order of the Eastern Star, Clearfield, Pa.

A homemaker, she married Alvin James Barrett on July 30, 1950. He died May 16, 1994.

Surviving are: a sister, Dorothea Bartell, Curwensville, and a brother, Gus Wolfe, Sulphur Springs, Texas.

Edward Evans Bauman

World War II veteran worked for Allegheny County transit

Edward Evans Bauman, Coolspring Township, died Monday (7-31-00) in UPMC Horizon, Greenville. He was 74.

Mr. Bauman was born Aug. 18, 1925, in New Kensington, Pa., to George E. and Florence Pearl Evans Bauman.

He was a locomotive and bus driver for Port Authority of Allegheny County.

A veteran, Mr. Bauman was an Army Air Corps pilot during World War II.

He was a Presbyterian.

Surviving are: his wife, the former Ruth A. Ayers, whom he married March 18, 1945; a daughter, Mrs. Mark W. (Judith) Arnold, Mercer; two sons, Frank E., Edinburg; and John D., Pittsburgh; two sisters, C. Jean Adams, Titusville, Fla.; and Evelyn Anderson, New Kensington; five granddaughters; and two stepgrandsons.

He was preceded in death by an infant daughter.

Melba Jene Cozart-Gordon

BHS graduate belonged to Youngstown church

Funeral will be Wednesday for Melba Jene Cozart-Gordon, 300 Orange Drive, Hermitage. She died at 11:15 a.m. Saturday (7-29-00) at home of respiratory failure. She was 47.

Mrs. Cozart-Gordon was born March 27, 1953, in Ramer, Tenn., to Willie and Helen Campbell Cozart.

She was a 1972 alumna of Brookfield High School and a member of McGuffey Road Church of Christ, Youngstown.

Surviving are: her husband, Charles M. Gordon, whom she married July 28, 1990; three daughters, DaRonica and Chiffon Cozart and Charmel Gordon, all at home; her mother, Masury; two sisters, Carolyn Norman, Sharon; and Lola Cozart, Hermitage; a brother, Larry Cozart, Masury; and a grandchild.

She was preceded in death by her father.

William Robert Gibbons

Former Sharon man was president of E.J. Del Monte

HONEOYE FALLS, N.Y. -- William Robert Gibbons, Honeoye Falls, and Beaufort, S.C., formerly of Sharon, died July 21, 2000, at home after a lengthy illness. He was 67.

Mr. Gibbons was born April 3, 1933, in Berea, Ohio, to Stanley C. and Mary Cosden Gibbons.

The 1951 alumnus of Sharon High School graduated from Allegheny College, Meadville, and was president of E.J. Del Monte Corp., Rochester, N.Y.

An Army veteran, Mr. Gibbons served as an international specialist in England and Germany during the Korean conflict.

Surviving are: his wife, the former Toni Funnell, in England; and a sister, Mrs. Robert (Martha) Wilcox, Transfer, formerly of Sharon.

He was preceded in death by two brothers, Alfred and Burton.

Elda Robert Ginn Jr.

St. John's Episcopal member was hospital volunteer

DENTON, Texas -- Elda Robert Ginn Jr., 3406 Bob-O-Link, Denton, formerly of Masury, died at 7:59 p.m. Wednesday (7-26-00) at home. He was 75.

Mr. Ginn was born March 20, 1925, in Youngstown to E. Robert and Mary G. Zehner Ginn Sr.

He attended what is now Youngstown State University and retired in 1990 after 42 years from Youngstown Vindicator Printing Co., where he was a district manager in the circulation department.

A Navy veteran, Mr. Ginn served on various ships and at naval stations from June 1943 through March 1946 during World War II.

He was a member of Youngstown Newspaper Guild 11 and Free and Accepted Masons Hillman Lodge 481 Youngstown Chapter 93, of which he was a past president.

Mr. Ginn was a past member and volunteer of the former Shenango Valley Medical Center Guild, Farrell. He was also a volunteer for Denton Community Hospital and Denton Senior Citizens.

He belonged to St. John's Episcopal Church, Sharon.

Surviving are: two sons, Robert W. and Eric R., both Masury; three daughters, Mary Helen and Barbara L., both Masury; and Norma J. Mrofchak, Austintown, Ohio; and a sister, Barbara, Niles, Ohio.

Cremation was held in Denton.

A memorial service will be held for family and friends at 5 p.m. Friday (8-4-00) in St. John's Episcopal Church, Sharon, with the Rev. George L. Wareham, associate rector, officiating.

Retired nurse worked for UCH, Orchard Manor

Marian A. Snyder Isacco, Forestville, died at 5:45 a.m. Monday (7-31-00) in Allegheny General Hospital, Pittsburgh, after a brief illness. She was 73.

Mrs. Isacco was born July 31, 1927, in Forestville to Victor R. and Nancy I. Wolford Snyder Sr.

A nurse, she retired from United Community Hospital, Pine Township, and previously worked for Orchard Manor, Pine Township, and the former Grove City Hospital.

Mrs. Isacco was a member of St. Anthony's Church, Forestville.

Surviving are: her husband, A.P. Isacco, whom she married April 5, 1952; three daughters, Connie, Nancy and Sandy, all at home; a son, Victor P., Slippery Rock; two sisters, Virginia "Gina" Taggart, Slippery Rock; and Sara "Peg" McCaslin, West Sunbury, Pa.; and two grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by four sisters, Bertha McFadden, Beatrice McCandless, Naomi Morrison and Corrine Belshaw; and a brother, Victor Snyder Jr.

Margaret E. 'Betty' Kerins

Retired nurse worked 20 years for Sharon Regional

Funeral will be Thursday (8-3-00) for Margaret E. "Betty" Kerins, 158 Horvath Farms Road, Hermitage, formerly of 2945 Maplewood Drive, Sharpsville. She died at 10:45 p.m. Sunday (7-30-00) in UPMC Horizon, Greenville. She was 81.

Mrs. Kerins was born June 22, 1919, in Farrell to Arthur Thomas and Sarah Ethel Kilgore Davis.

The 1937 Farrell High School alumna graduated from Cleveland Training School of Nursing and the University of Pittsburgh.

She began a teaching career in 1945 at Christian H. Buhl School of Nursing, now Sharon Regional Health System's nursing school, and was a private duty nurse until 1965.

Mrs. Kerins then accepted a position with the Sharon hospital and was a nurse supervisor until she retired with 20 years of service.

After her formal retirement from Sharon Regional, Mrs. Kerins again worked as a private duty nurse.

She was active in Boy Scouting and was instrumental in the beginning of Little League baseball and midget football in South Pymatuning Township. Mrs. Kerins was recognized for her efforts in the construction of the South Pymatuning Township Football Field.

She was a member of Shenango Valley Service Club and Retired Nurses Association.

Her husband, Lawrence "Larry" C. Kerins, whom she married March 3, 1945, died Nov. 12, 1985.

Surviving are: four sons, Larry Dan, Hermitage; Charles H., West Middlesex; Robert B., Martinez, Ga.; and Kim D., Yorktowne, Va.; a brother, Arthur Davis, West Middlesex; 13 grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.

Besides her husband, she was preceded in death by a brother, Derwood Davis.

Katherine M. Myers Livermore

Farrell woman co-owned former trailer park

Funeral will be Wednesday for Katherine M. Myers Livermore, 508 Indiana Ave., Farrell. She died at 4:05 a.m. Sunday (7-30-00) in the hospital of Sharon Regional Health System after a brief illness. She was 82.

Mrs. Livermore was born Oct. 7, 1917, in Coatesville, Pa., to Michael and Anna Budusan Lawrence.

She attended Hermitage schools.

A homemaker, Mrs. Livermore enjoyed listening to music and cooking.

For a number of years, she and her first husband, Russell E. Myers, whom she married in 1935, owned and operated the former Myers Trailer Sales and Park, Pine Hollow Boulevard, Hermitage. He died in 1953.

Her second husband, Donald LeRoy Livermore, whom she married in June 1956, died Jan. 30, 2000.

Surviving are: four daughters, Gloria Myers, Florissant, Mo.; Mrs. Dominic (Nancy) Cinicola and Marjorie Mudrinich-Weigle, both Hermitage; and Mrs. Michael (Marlene) Yesko, Farrell; three sons, Donald L. Livermore Jr. and Ronald L. Myers, both Hermitage; and Larry A. Myers, Montgomery, Texas; a sister, Anna Ruzich, Hermitage; 20 grandchildren; and 16 great-grandchildren.

Beside her husbands, she was preceded in death by two sons, Alvin R. and Irvine Russell Myers; a daughter, Mary Ann Livermore; a grandson, Charles Edward Phillips; two brothers, Michael and John Lawrence; and a sister, Millie Lawrence.

1994 Mercer High graduate worked for Wheatland Tube

Ronald J. McCleery, 410 Rexford Drive, Hermitage, died Sunday evening (7-30-00) in St. Elizabeth Health Center, Youngstown, of injuries he suffered in an automobile accident July 16 in Masury. He was 25.

Mr. McCleery was born Nov. 6, 1974, in Germany to Ronald "Fred" and Deborah "Debbie" Hite McCleery.

A 1994 alumnus of Mercer High School, he was a furnace worker at Wheatland Tube Co.

Mr. McCleery attended Mercer Free Methodist Church and enjoyed basketball, dancing, amusement parks and watching movies.

Surviving are his parents, Sharon.

Alice E. Graham McCluskey, 309 Bessemer Ave., Grove City, died at 4 a.m. Monday (7-31-00) at home after a yearlong illness. She was 83.

Mrs. McCluskey was born Nov. 22, 1916, in Liberty Township to Arthur and Lila Hodil Graham.

A homemaker, she married Roy C. McCluskey on April 10, 1934. He died May 8, 1976.

She was a member of Tower Presbyterian Church, Grove City.

Surviving are: two daughters, Mrs. William (Patty) Martin and Mrs. Walter "Pat" (Colleen) Patterson, both Grove City; a sister, Helen Wise, Mercer; five grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren.

Besides her husband, she was preceded in death by two brothers, Walter "Tub" and William Graham, and a sister, Dora Emery.

Farrell Baking Co. employee was Air Force veteran

Funeral will be Saturday for Rufus Alexander 'Alex' McCoy, 923 Fruit Ave., Farrell. He died at noon Sunday (7-30-00) in the hospital of Sharon Regional Health System of a heart ailment. He was 66.

Mr. McCoy was born June 6, 1934, in Cheraw, S.C., to Rufus and Estella Fleming McCoy.

He attended Farrell schools and was a maintenance worker for Farrell Baking Co.

Mr. McCoy was an Air Force veteran and a standout baseball player with the former Farrell Grays Team.

Surviving are: his wife, the former Jean A. Shannonhouse, whom he married Aug. 29, 1981; four daughters, Valerie Trudo, Sharon; Vernell Miller, Charlotte, N.C.; Flora Austin, Farrell; and Casandra Geter, Nashville, Tenn.; a son, Rufus A. McCoy III, Warren, Ohio; a stepson, Kenneth Miller, Charlotte; two sisters, Vivian Williams, Sharon; and Mrs. Thomas L. (Jean C.) Sims, Farrell; two brothers, Julius L., Harrisburg; and James M., Pittsburgh; a grandson, whom he reared, Robert Shannonhouse, Farrell; 17 other grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by two stepsons, Keith Miller and Elmer Miller Jr.

The Rev Homer M. Smith

Nazarene minister belonged to church in Grove City

The Rev. Homer M. Smith, 413 E. Washington Blvd., Grove City, died at 12:35 a.m. Monday (7-31-00) in United Community Hospital, Pine Township. He was 86.

Rev. Smith was born July 21, 1914, in Valton, Wis., to Frank Kenneth and Laura Johnson Smith.

He was an alumnus of Eastern Nazarene College, Boston, and a member of Church of the Nazarene, Grove City.

Rev. Smith served various Nazarene congregations including Salisbury, Md.; Yarmouth, Maine; Pawtuxet, R.I.; Youngstown; and 18 years in Endicott, N.Y.

Surviving are: his wife, the former Glenna Briggs, whom he married Oct. 25, 1936; two daughters, Mrs. David H. (Jean) Jones, Grove City; and Mrs. Jerold (Martha Lynn) McCloy, Foxboro, Mass.; a son, S. Del, Ashville, N.C.; a sister, Naomi Ruth Wallace, Charlottesville, Va.; a brother, Stephen, Camarillo, Calif.; five grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by three sisters, Mary Cove, Esther Grabic and Martha Smith, and a brother, Paul.

LEXINGTON, Ky. -- Funeral will be Thursday for Mabel Hutchison Whipple, 1182 Crumbaugh Road, Georgetown, Ky., formerly of Hermitage and Conneaut Lake. She died at 2:03 a.m. Sunday (7-30-00) in St. Joseph's Hospital, Lexington, after a brief illness. She was 88.

Mrs. Whipple was born March 10, 1912, in Hermitage to Jesse M. and Minnie Spory Hoagland.

An alumna of Conneaut Lake High School, she was a cafeteria worker for Hermitage School District.

Mrs. Whipple was an Episcopal and member of Order of the Eastern Star Chapter 237; and the Rebekah Lodge, both Sharpsville.

She enjoyed spending winters in Naples, Fla.

Her first husband, Walter H. Hutchison, whom she married Nov. 8, 1932, is deceased.

Surviving are: her second husband, Wilbur "Pete" Whipple, whom she married in 1982, Georgetown; two stepsons; two sisters, Evangeline Snyderwine, Erie; and Kathryn Patton, Magnolia, Texas; a brother, Jesse Hoagland, Conneaut Lake; four grandchildren; five stepgrandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.
