Bigler House vandalized again
For the third time in a month, windows were broken in the historic Bigler House Thursday or Friday.
Pymatuning Township police said they have kept close watch on the Bigler House after windows were broken and paint was spilled in separate incidents in late August. Police discovered the latest damage Friday.
To get into the 1840s farmhouse vandals broke a window and its Plexiglas covering, police said. A grate over a crawl space vent also was pried open, police said.
On Saturday, police said, a ca in a parking area at Kidds Mill Covered Bridge park, located next to Bigler House, was vandalized. A windshield was smashed and a marker was used to write a profanity on the hood, police said. Also garbage was dumped around the area, police said.
Both the Bigler House and the Kidds Mill Covered Bridge are under the control of Shenango Conservancy. Dennis Puko, conservancy treasurer, said the board will discuss solutions to the problem when it meets Wednesday.
Brothers Jonathan and William Bigler built the house about 1840 for their mother, Susan D. Bigler. In 1852, Jonathan Bigler became governor of California; at the same time his brother became governor of Pennsylvania.
Several years ago the conservancy moved the house from its original location in Delaware Township.
