Today's obituaries Winston Fredrick Fossett Hermitage man was retired school psychologist Winston Fredrick Fossett, Hermitage, died at 1:45 p.m. Sunday (9-10-00) in St. Elizabeth’s Health Center, Youngstown, following an illness of 22 years with leukemia. He was 70. Mr. Fossett was born Feb. 18, 1930, in Aliquippa to Roy and Catherine Kobich Fossett. He was a 1956 alumnus of Slippery Rock University of Pennsylvania, where he earned a bachelor’s degree in education and was a track star. Mr. Fossett also attended Indiana University of Pennsylvania; and received a master’s degree in speech therapy and school psychology from Westminster College, New Wilmington. He was an Air Force veteran and retired as a school psychologist for West Middlesex and Sharpsville school districts. Surviving are: his wife of 44 years, the former Mary Katherine McKnight, whom he married Aug. 10, 1957; a son, Keith F.; and a daughter, Diana K., both the Washington, D.C., area; and two brothers, Richard, Maryland; and Phillip, Pennsylvania. He was preceded in death by a sister, Geanne Gardner. FOSSETT Alma M. Gallagher Former homemaker was active in Sharon U.M. church Alma M. Gallagher, Masury, formerly of Hull Street, Sharon, died at 4:01 a.m. Sunday (9-10-00) in O’Brien Memorial Nursing Home, Masury. She was 102. Mrs. Gallagher was born May 13, 1898, in Pittsburgh to Herman and Anna Mary Stadtlander Schneider. She was educated in Pittsburgh and moved to the area in the 1920s. A homemaker, Mrs. Gallagher was an active member of Oakland Avenue United Methodist Church, Sharon, and its United Methodist Women. She also belonged to Order of the Eastern Star Chapter 242, Sharon. Her husband, Thomas C. Gallagher, whom she married in 1919, died in 1959. Surviving are: a daughter, Betty Jane Kennedy, West Salem Township; three grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren. Besides her husband, she was preceded in death by a sister, Elsie MaWhinney. Memorial contributions may be made to Oakland Avenue United Methodist Church, 192 N. Oakland Ave., Sharon 16146.
GALLAGHER Joseph Lyle Graham Retired banker, ex-Glenshaw man was active in church Memorial service will be Wednesday for Joseph Lyle Graham, Cottage Colony at St. Paul Homes, West Salem Township, formerly of Glenshaw, Pa. He died Friday evening (9-8-00) at home. He was 73. Mr. Graham was born Aug. 10, 1927, in Connoquenessing, Pa., to Joseph C. and Belva Smiley Graham. An alumnus of the former Etna (Pa.) High School, he attended Robert Morris College, Pittsburgh; and graduated from the University of Wisconsin School of Banking. Mr. Graham retired in 1985 after 35 years from Mellon Bank, Pittsburgh, for which he was assistant vice president in charge of the bank’s data security. As a member of Zion’s Reformed United Church of Christ, Greenville, he was church treasurer, council member, trustee, choir member and Sunday school teacher. Mr. Graham also served on the Stewardship and Finance Commission; the church Personnel Committee; and volunteered in the office doing computer work. He was a former member of North Hills Community Baptist Church, Pittsburgh. A Navy veteran, Mr. Graham served during World War II and was a seaman first class in the Naval Reserve. He belonged to the board of directors of North Hills Youth Ministry, Pittsburgh; and of Rankin Christian Center; and also served on the Ordination Council of Pittsburgh Baptist Association. Surviving are: his wife, the former Julia Marie Anderson, whom he married Aug. 26, 1950; a daughter, Maggie O’Lear, Hickory, Pa.; a son, Douglas L., Port Republic, Va.; a sister, Maxine Berkheiser, Bristol, Pa.; a brother, Norman, Denham Springs, La.; and four grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a sister, Ethel Novosel; and three brothers, Robert, Donald and Bruce. GRAHAM Howard L. Hubbard Jr. Howard L. Hubbard Jr., 8120 Davis St. SE, Masury, died at 6 p.m. Sunday (9-10-00) in O’Brien Memorial Nursing Home, Masury. He was 79. Obituary information was incomplete.
HUBBARD Rose Eileen Kuhn New Wilmington homemaker belonged to Alliance church Rose Eileen Kuhn, 430 W. Neshannock Ave., New Wilmington, died at 6:50 p.m. Saturday (9-9-00) in the hospital of Jameson Health System, New Castle, following a brief illness. She was 67. Miss Kuhn was born Dec. 31, 1932, in West Middlesex to Daniel James and Ethel Marie Flickinger Kuhn. She attended Sharon area schools. A homemaker, Miss Kuhn was a member of New Wilmington Christian & Missionary Alliance Church. Surviving are: five sisters, Doris Shaffer; and Betty and Margaret, all New Wilmington; Alice Anderson, Sharon; and Shirley Herrich, Transfer; and three brothers, James, New Castle; Daniel L., Volant; and Harry, New Wilmington. She was preceded in death by two sisters, Erma Jean and Vera R.
KUHN Kay E. Butler Pringle Thompson Retired federal worker was member of library group Kay E. Butler Pringle Thompson, 466 McCullough Road, Jefferson Township, died at 7 p.m. Sunday (9-10-00) in UPMC Horizon, Farrell, following an extended illness. She was 61. Mrs. Thompson was born July 3, 1939, in Grove City to James D. and Genevieve Daniels Butler. An alumna of Grove City High School, she retired in July 1999 after 21 years from the federal government’s Office of Personnel Management in Boyers, where she was a benefits specialist. Mrs. Thompson was previously a secretary for Allied News, Grove City. The lifelong avid reader was a member of Friends of the Library, Mercer. Mrs. Thompson was a Protestant. Her first husband, Jack Pringle, died Feb. 12, 1986. Surviving are: her second husband, Shurl A. Thompson, whom she married May 4, 1988; two daughters, Cindy L. Pringle, Meadville; and Mrs. Thomas (Deborah A.) Brandon, Grove City; a stepson, Jesse, Sharpsville; a brother, Russell S. Butler, Grapevine, Texas; and a granddaughter. THOMPSON Ruth Bargar Waclaski Franklin nurse, retail clothier married Sharpsville man ERIE -- Ruth Bargar Waclaski, 674 Grant St., Franklin, formerly of 619 Abbey Way, Orange City, Fla., died at 2:38 p.m. Saturday (9-9-00) in St. Vincent’s Health Center following heart surgery. She was 76. Mrs. Waclaski was born Feb. 10, 1924, in Franklin to the Rev. John A. Bargar and Laura Blair Bargar. She attended Titusville and Franklin schools and was an alumna of St. Francis School of Nursing, Chicago. As a licensed practical nurse, Mrs. Waclaski worked at Franklin Hospital and also did private-duty nursing. She also worked in retail at Feldmans and Printz Co. before opening R&G Casual Clothing Store, Franklin. During World War II, Mrs. Waclaski participated in entertaining American soldiers and sang as a Melody Girl on WPIC Radio, Sharon. She served with the Franklin Retail Association; Business Women’s Club; and Committees of Applefest, decorating many area homes for public display. A devoted Christian, Mrs. Waclaski was a member of Fox Street Church of God, Franklin. Following retirement, she moved to Orange City and returned to Franklin in 1998. Mrs. Waclaski loved collecting antiques and was talented in making arts and crafts. Surviving are: her husband, George Waclaski of Sharpsville, whom she married May 4, 1945, in Brockway, Pa.; a daughter, Mrs. Rob (Sandra "Sandy") Tarr, Franklin; a sister, Naomi Kern, Orchard Park, N.Y.; two brothers, Robert Bargar, Knox, Pa., and Port St. Lucie, Fla.; and Francis "Pete" Bargar, Glacimus, Ore.; a granddaughter; a grandson; and three great-grandsons. She was preceded in death by a daughter, Sally Lou; two brothers, John and Budman Bargar; and three sisters, Mary Bargar Correa, Helen Bargar Heckathorn and Claribel Bargar.
