Campus adds information science degree

Students attending Pennsylvania State University’s Shenango Campus in Sharon may choose another degree of study.

The school has added an associate’s degree in Information Sciences and Technology to help students prepare for employment in network administration and to meet the needs of area residents and employers who need computer skills, according to a news release.

Dr. Fred Leeds, campus director of academic affairs, said, "The high enrollment in IST courses for this fall confirms that ... there is a need for this program in our area."

The campus has added another computer laboratory with new hardware and software, the release said. It said the curriculum will cover areas such as hardware basics, networking essentials, network administration and new media and the World Wide Web. The final semester will include an internship to help students with the transition from school to work.

More information about the degree program is available by calling the admissions office, 983-2800.
